There’s more to Komander’s absence from Wednesday night than a gimmicked behind-the-scenes attack.
Multiple reports have noted that the Mexican AEW talent suffered a legitimate injury earlier this week, forcing him to withdraw from last night’s Summer Blockbuster edition of Dynamite from Portland, Oregon.
Wrestling Observer Radio’s Dave Meltzer noted that Komander “slipped” on the ropes during a match in Mexico on Sunday, causing him to be injured. Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful had also previously noted that a recent injury took him off this week’s show.
Komander was expected to appear on Wednesday’s Dynamite alongside Kevin Knight and Mike Bailey in a six-man tag against The Hurt Syndicate. However, he was scratched from the match through a backstage attack segment and replaced by Mascara Dorada.
More importantly, the injury calls into question whether Komander will still be able to headline an Arena Mexico card next week in a title matchup.
Komander is currently booked in the main event of a special FantasticaMania card at Arena Mexico on June 20, teaming alongside Hologram and Bandido in a CMLL trios title match.
While nothing has been officially announced thus far, Meltzer noted that he’s “not expected to be back” in time for next week’s show.
26-year-old Komander has been a fixture on AEW programming since 2023 while also remaining active in his home country of Mexico. His last TV appearance came earlier this month, when he won a trios match against Dralistico, Rush and The Beast Mortos.
