Jon Moxley & AEW sued for civil assault, battery & negligence

A civil suit has been filed against Jon Moxley and AEW by a production team member over an incident from two years ago.

The suit was filed on May 30 in Wayne County Circuit Court and first reported by Jon Alba of The Takedown on SI.com.

Christopher Dispensa was contracted to work on the AEW production team on May 10, 2023, at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit. During a steel cage match between Moxley and Kenny Omega, Dispensa was instructed to hand a screwdriver to Moxley, but the plaintiff states that Moxley “unexpectedly deviated from the planned script by placing his hands on Plaintiff’s face and shoulder and violently shoving Plaintiff to the ground.”

The nine-page complaint states that Dispensa suffered extensive injuries and required cervical spine surgery, shoulder surgery, and additional medical treatment.

Dispensa worked as an independent contractor that night and is not an employee of AEW.

The complaint alleges civil assault and battery by Moxley and general negligence by the promotion.

Dispensa is seeking a jury trial to determine a fair judgment in his favor regarding monetary damages, which the plaintiffs argue is in excess of $25,000.

He is being represented by Thomas W. James of Raitt Law, PLLC.
