Jim Ross has provided a positive update on his health after undergoing surgery to treat colon cancer.
Ross returned to his Grilling JR podcast for the first time since his procedure in an episode recorded on Friday, June 20.
He told host Conrad Thompson, “I had a meeting with my surgeon earlier this week. He’s very happy, which makes me very happy.”
He added, “I believe they got all the cancer, which is great. So, you know, I’m very blessed in that regard.”
The 73-year-old spoke of post-operative pain in his abdomen but said, “I’ve endured worse.”
He told Thompson that he has a follow-up appointment in around 30 days, and is currently concentrating on healing “a day at a time”. “I think I got lucky as hell,” he added.
Ross also thanked fans for the support he had received since he revealed his diagnosis in May:
The outpouring of support has been nothing short of extraordinary. And it really makes me feel good. So I know that people care about me and, and they know that I care about them and, you know, all the support that I’ve been given is pretty amazing.
Before his surgery, Ross had told Thompson his goal was to be well enough to attend AEW All In at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas on July 12.
Thompson noted that the pay-per-view was only three and a half weeks away and asked whether that target was “too ambitious”.
Ross responded:
No, I don’t think it’s too ambitious. I think it’s realistic. I’m hopeful that that’s what happens. You know, I’d love to be a part of that event and see the fans and see the talents […]
I don’t want to get too ambitious, but my plan is to be there and to participate. I want to play. I want to get back in the game somehow, some way, and contribute to the success of AEW.
