The Ichiban Sweet Boys duo of Robbie Eagles and Kosei Fujita lead the B Block for NJPW’s Super Junior Tag League following action on Sunday night at the Uonuma City Horinouchi Gym.
Fujita and Eagles overcame the duo of KUSHIDA and Dragon Gate’s Yuki Yoshioka in the main event of Sunday’s card, keeping them undefeated through three nights of tournament competition. While Yoshioka was able to break up a pin attempt following a double-team cutter from the TMDK duo, the team put away the matchup a minute later by scoring their double-team piledriver finisher, The Interceptor.
The 21-minute main event saw the Ichiban Sweet Boys work hard for their win. KUSHIDA came close to ending the bout with an armbar mid-way through and a hard brainbuster near the end.
The first B Block elimination came in the co-main event, when Robbie X and Taiji Ishimori overcame the duo of Tiger Mask and YAMATO. Scoring an X-Express dive off the top rope in 11 minutes, Robbie X kept Tiger Mask and YAMATO winless in the tournament thus far and left them mathematically unable to take the Block.
Avoiding elimination was House of Torture’s Dick Togo and Yoshinobu Kanemaru, who scored a necessary two points with a win over El Desperado and Kuukai. Winning the way House of Torture only knows, by cheating, the team threw chalk in the eyes of Kuukai, giving Kanemaru the chance for a roll-up pinfall win.
NJPW’s Super Junior Tag League will continue on Tuesday from the Sado City General Gymnasium, where the A Block will be back in focus. Tied for first place in the standings, the duo of Master Wato and YOH will be able to try and improve in the main event when they face Gedo and Hiromu Takahashi.
