New Japan Pro Wrestling has finalized the card for its sold-out “Final Homecoming” event on November 2 in Gifu.
The show will feature Hiroshi Tanahashi’s final match in his hometown and includes two major championship contests.
The main event features IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Konosuke Takeshita defending his title against Hirooki Goto. This is Takeshita’s first defense since he won the championship from Zack Sabre Jr. at King of Pro-Wrestling.
Takeshita’s challenge was answered by Goto, who holds a G1 Climax victory over the champion from last year. Takeshita has been critical of older challengers, while Goto has questioned Takeshita’s dedication to NJPW.
In the co-main event, Hiroshi Tanahashi challenges Yota Tsuji for the IWGP Global Heavyweight Championship. The match is Tanahashi’s first in his Gifu hometown in eight years and is billed as his last appearance there.
The story for the match centers on Tanahashi being the one who inspired Tsuji to pursue wrestling years ago.
The show will also host the Super Junior Tag League Final. IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champions SHO & DOUKI face the BC War Dogs team of Robbie X & Taiji Ishimori.
Elsewhere on the card, Great-O-Khan makes his return to action for the first time since September, participating in an eight-man tag match.
The event will air live Sunday on NJPW World and will help set the direction for Wrestle Kingdom on January 4.
