NJPW’s Final Homecoming show on November 2 concluded with the setting of a major Tokyo Dome main event.

At the close of the show, IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Konosuke Takeshita and IWGP Global Heavyweight Champion Yota Tsuji agreed to a double-title match at Wrestle Kingdom.

Takeshita retains, challenged by Tsuji for Tokyo Dome

The main event at the Gifu Memorial Center Deai Dome featured Konosuke Takeshita making his first defense of the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship against Hirooki Goto. Takeshita retained the title, pinning Goto after a Raging Fire.

Following the match, Takeshita called for his next challenger for the Tokyo Dome. Yota Tsuji, who had just successfully defended his own title, emerged to answer the challenge. The two champions agreed to face each other at Wrestle Kingdom on January 4, with both championships on the line.

Tsuji defeats Tanahashi in emotional hometown farewell

Tsuji’s title defense came in the semi-main event against Hiroshi Tanahashi. The match was Tanahashi’s final appearance in his hometown of Gifu, and it gave the event its ‘Final Homecoming’ name. Tsuji defeated Tanahashi with the Gene Blaster to retain the IWGP Global Heavyweight Championship.

After the contest, Tsuji thanked Tanahashi for the match and for his career inspiration. An emotional Tanahashi then addressed his hometown crowd.

However, the farewell was interrupted by Yuto-Ice, who challenged Tanahashi to a singles match for the November 8 show in Anjo.

SHO & DOUKI win Super Junior Tag League

The finals of the Super Junior Tag League also concluded at the event. The IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champions, SHO & DOUKI of House of Torture, defeated the BC War Dogs team of Taiji Ishimori & Robbie X to win the tournament. DOUKI pinned Ishimori with a horizontal cradle after spitting red mist in his face and holding his tights.
