The Match That Needs No Hype

WWE Raw from Columbus kicked off with Paul Heyman in the ring, who said he was there to hype the crowd on a match that needs no hype. Heyman threw to a vignette in which Lesnar said that Femi beat him so badly at WrestleMania that he decided he was done. Lesnar continued, saying that Oba would be beaten by a “retired beast”.

After the video, Heyman was interrupted by Femi, who got in Heyman’s face, saying he will retire Brock Lesnar a second time. Femi signed the contract on Heyman’s chest, telling Heyman to tell Brock, “Last time I was fighting to beat him, this time I’m fighting to kill him”.

Intercontinental Championship

The first match of the night saw Penta defending his Intercontinental title against Je’Von Evans. Evans went for the OG Cutter right out of the gate, but Penta caught him, and both men were at a stalemate, even dancing together before Evans hit a dropkick and a dive to Penta on the outside. Evans went for another dive onto Penta, and Evans seemed to be inspired by Darby Allin’s actions last night as Penta caught Evans and slammed him back-first into the spine of the announce table.

After a commercial break, Evans hit Penta with a Bicycle Knee and the OG Cutter for a near fall. Evans followed that up by hitting an OG Cutter on the apron, but hurt himself in the process. Penta countered another springboard with the Penta Driver for a two-count of his own. Penta intercepted two consecutive OG Cutters with a superkick and a backstabber, respectively, hitting a Mexican Destroyer for the win. After the match, Penta tried to shake Evans’ hand, and Evans bailed, clearly frustrated. This was a pretty good match that really ramped up in the last minute.

Logan Paul suffered a torn triceps at Saturday Night’s Main Event, and he will be out for “a number of months”. Austin Theory approached Paul Heyman backstage, saying he didn’t know what to do with his half of the tag titles. Heyman explained that he put in their contracts that it was just “The Vision,” so now Bron Breakker was his tag team partner. Theory said he wanted to take out every single person who was involved with Logan’s injury.

Joe Hendry was out next to do his “Fire Logan Paul” song again, and he was attacked from behind with a chair by Austin Theory. Officials ran down after Theory seemingly knocked Hendry unconscious.

Seth Rollins approached Angelo Dawkins backstage and apologized again, noting that he stayed out of their way at Saturday Night’s Main Event. Rollins again proposed teaming up when Montez Ford appeared, saying that nothing good happens when Rollins is around. Rollins pointed out he wasn’t there on Saturday, and they didn’t win the titles. Ford challenged Rollins to a match for tonight, and Rollins accepted, and Dawkins was not happy.

Je’Von Evans apologized to Penta backstage, saying he was unprofessional and that he would face Penta for the IC title again soon. Rey Mysterio appeared, and Penta congratulated him, becoming the new General Manager of AAA. Penta challenged Mysterio to a match, and Rey said it would be his honor.

Judgment Day vs. Bayley & Lyra

Next up, Roxanne Perez & Raquel Rodriguez took on Bayley and Lyra Vlakyria. The heels jumped the faces before the bell and got the heat on Bayley until she made the hot tag to Bayley. Timing went to hell in this one as Lyra fell while trying to send Raquel into the post; the referee could be heard yelling “tag” to Bayley and Lyra, and Liv Morgan was late getting Roxanne’s leg on the rope during a pin attempt. Bayley then mistimed a save on a pin attempt on Lyra, and finally, Dom threw his AAA title to Roxanne, and she softly hit Dom with it by accident. The crowd remained in it, but this was a clunker.

Backstage, Adam Pearce tried to convince Roman Reigns that Jacob Fatu should have been fired. Reigns demanded that there had to be consequences in their contract – if Roman wins, he has to serve him, if Jacob wins, “good luck, we’re all screwed”.
