The Ruler Needs a Crown

Monday Night Raw from Paris kicked off with Oba Femi cutting an in-ring promo where he said he would win the King of the Ring tournament at Night of Champions. He also noted he was still looking for Brock Lesnar after he disappeared following the score, calling him a “big bad bitch”. This brought out Dominik Mysterio, Oba’s opponent in next week’s KOTR tournament match. The Paris crowd booed and chanted “Oba” over Dom’s promo. Mysterio told Femi to “bend the knee and respect the stache” as Jd McDonagh appeared and hit Femi from behind with a chair, which Femi no-sold. Oba went after JD, and Mysterio caught him with a 619. Femi set up for the Fall From Grace, but JD pulled Dom to safety. Oba got back on the mic, saying, “We all know Rey Mysterio is your father, but next week I’m going to introduce you to your daddy”.

Seth Rollins was interviewed backstage and said that the last time he was in Paris, he was the World Heavyweight Champion and the leader of The Vision. Rollins said The Vision is now in the past, and he would win the King of the Ring and go on to take back the title he never lost. Rollins stated he had a future match with Roman Reigns, someone who can’t beat him when it matters most.

Queen of the Ring Tournament Match

The first match of the night saw Alexa Bliss, Chelsea Green, Becky Lynch, and Women’s World Champion Liv Morgan square off in a four-way match in the Queen of the Ring tournament. The early portion of the match saw Chelsea Green hit a dive onto Bliss and Morgan from the top rope to the outside, only to have Becky Lynch send her into the ring post as the show went to commercial. Upon return, all four women battled for control as Bliss hit Twisted Bliss for a near fall. Bliss hit Sister Abigail on Morgan, but Lynch picked her up and hit the Manhandle Slam. Chelsea Green hit the Unpretty-her on Lynch, and Morgan rolled Green up for the win.

A vignette aired ahead of the Intercontinental Championship match between Rey Mysterio and Penta.

Penta was backstage when Chad Gable appeared and said that his whole Grande Americano journey was because he lost to Penta in his debut match. Gable apologized, and Penta accepted, but suggested that Gable knew who he needed to talk to in order to really respect Lucha Libre.

Seth Rollins was approached by Montez Ford backstage, and the two embraced. Ford wished him luck in the King of the Ring match later tonight. The Usos and Jacob Fatu interrupted and told him to be careful how he speaks about “the family”. Jey Uso said he was going to win King of the Ring and go on to take the title from Cody Rhodes. Rollins responded by noting Jimmy wasn’t in the tournament, just like Roman wanted. Rollins said he thought The Usos were better than running things for Reigns. Jey demanded Jacob attack Rollins, but Fatu simply walked off.

Another vignette aired, highlighting Sol Ruca defending her newly won title against the inaugural Intercontinental Champion, Lyra Valkyria. After, Bayley tried to amp up Lyra ahead of the match, but Lyra seemed annoyed by her.

Intercontinental Championship Match (1 of 2)

Next, Sol Ruca defended her IC title against Lyra Valkyria. Things were about even as the match began, with both competitors getting their moves in before Valkyria successfully dumped Ruca over the top rope to the outside. After an ad break, Ruca gained control, hitting a missile drop kick and a running knee for a two count. Lyra recovered, hitting a spinning heel kick for a two count of her own. Both women countered as momentum swung back and forth between them. Lyra went for another spinning heel kick and missed, hitting the Sol Snatcher for the win.

The Usos approached Jacob Fatu backstage after what happened with Seth Rollins earlier, and Fatu reiterated that he only acknowledged Reigns, not The Usos. Fatu said they should be worried about LA Knight, who was constantly talking about “the family”. LA Knight was shown walking to the ring, passing by Otis, Tozawa, and Maxxine, who looked like they were not having a good conversation.

The Unchosen

LA Knight cut an in-ring promo ahead of his King of the Ring match this Friday on SmackDown. Knight talked about how all of the Bloodline would get involved when he finally gets his match with Roman Reigns. He also brought up how Adam Pearce speaks to him versus how he speaks to Reigns. Knight called himself “unchosen” by Pearce, but he was chosen by the fans. He singled out Jey Uso in their match on Friday, hoping that he didn’t need his whole family to help him. This brought out Jey Uso without Jimmy. Jey Uso cut an out-of-breath promo after “running it back”, saying that he was going to win on Friday. Jey went to leave, but Knight stopped him and cut off his theme, prompting the crowd to boo. Knight got on the mic again and said, “screw your family,” and Jimmy ran down to stop Jey from attacking.

Chad Gable approached Rey Mysterio and Dragon Lee backstage, and they said he needed to stop beating himself up. Rey called the Mask vs. Mask match “true Lucha Libre” and accepted his apology. Mysterio suggested Gable look “back a little further” because he may have done some stuff he regrets way before he put the mask on.

Intercontinental Championship Match (2 of 2)

Next up, Penta defended his Intercontinental Championship against Rey Mysterio. Early on, Mysterio hit a Springboard Moonsault onto Penta on the outside as the show went to break. AfterPenta hit a dive of his own onto Mysterio as he gained control of the match, the Paris crowd chanted “Lucha Libre”. Mysterio hit a sliding Sunset Powerbomb into the barricade as the show went back to commercial. Upon return, Penta hit the Penta Driver for a two-count. Penta went for the Mexican Destroyer, but Mysterio countered and hit a Poisonrana, followed by the 619 and Droppin’ the Dime for a near fall. Rey countered another Penta Driver attempt and hit another 619. Mysterio came off the top rope but landed on Penta’s knees. Penta hit the Mexican Destroyer to collect the pinfall victory.

After the match, Ethan Page and Rusev attacked, and Dragon Lee ran down to make the save, but was thrown into the timekeeper’s area for his efforts. Rusev then ripped the mask off of Mysterio when Chad Gable ran down to make the save. Gable picked up Mysterio’s mask and handed it to be put back on Rey.

A Raquel Rodriguez promo aired ahead of her match against Iyo Sky in the Queen of the Ring tournament next week.
