Yota Tsuji has reclaimed his position as the top wrestler in NJPW.
Tsuji regained the IWGP Heavyweight Championship on Sunday night, beating Callum Newman in a rematch to take the title back. The victory headlined this year’s Dominion 6.14 card from the Osaka-jo Hall in Osaka, Japan.
A pair of Gene Blaster spears from Tsuji, then a sudden side suplex, allowed him to score the pinfall win over Newman in 24 minutes.
Tsuji fought an incredibly physical, nearly half-hour contest full of high-risk spots earlier in the bout.
The fight went to the ramp early on, where a back body drop from Tsuji caused Newman to land knee-first. Newman responded moments later with another big moment, leaping off the ramp and into the crowd with a cannonball onto Tsuji.
Later, an Excalibur stomp from Newman sent Tsuji into a table at ringside, which had little to no give after the move.
The result on Sunday night begins Tsuji’s second-ever run with NJPW’s top title. His first campaign with the IWGP Heavyweight Championship started at this year’s Wrestle Kingdom card, where he beat Konosuke Takeshita in the main event.
Newman kicked off his title reign with a stunning win back at Sakura Genesis in April, beating Tsuji in a 24-minute performance. He successfully defended his title for the first time a month later, defeating Shingo Takagi in a lengthy 35-minute battle.
The main event means that Tsuji will enter this year’s G1 Climax as the top champ. He’s expected to compete in this year’s A Block, where other top names include Konosuke Takeshita, Shingo Takagi, and Hirooki Goto.
Earlier in the night: YOH earns junior heavyweight title, Shota Umino & Aaron Wolf among new champs crowned
It was an eventful night in Osaka, as numerous title changes took place lower on the card. Here’s a quick rundown of all the action:
YOH kicked off his first-ever reign with the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship in the co-main event, dethroning DOUKI. 2026 Best of the Super Juniors winner YOH connected with his Direct Drive for the finish, overcoming significant cheating tactics from DOUKI in the process.
Shota Umino captured his first-ever title on Sunday night, shockingly pinning AEW’s Andrade El Idolo in a three-way also featuring Drilla Moloney for the IWGP Global Heavyweight Championship. Umino’s title celebration was short-lived, as he was attacked by the returning Gabe Kidd after the bell.
The more than 250-day IWGP Tag Team Championship reign of the Knockout Brothers came to an end on Sunday night, losing to the United Empire duo of HENARE and Great-O-Khan in a 21-minute bout. HENARE and GoK are now on their second run with the belts. Their previously reign, a brief 2024 run with the titles, came to an end after HENARE suffered an injury.
Judo Olympian turned professional wrestler Aaron Wolf reclaimed the NEVER Openweight Championship on Sunday night, avenging his past loss to Ren Narita. Typical House of Torture tactics from Narita’s entourage were prevented by Konosuke Takeshita and Toru Yano, who drove the faction away from ringside. Minutes later, Wolf was able to earn the win with an Olympic Slam.
El Desperado pulled off a big win early in the night, beating teammate and CMLL star Mistico in a special attraction singles bout. Desperado countered a La Mistica attempt into his Numero Dos submission, causing a sudden tap-out at the nine-minute mark.
Jake Lee won a no-disqualification grudge match over El Phantasmo, dropping him with a loaded boot to the head, then putting him to sleep with a chokehold.
Sunday’s show opened with the return of SANADA, wrestling for the first time since January. The former world champ, who was back after spending months healing from long-term injuries, came up short against NJPW World Television Champion Konosuke Takeshita, getting put away by a Raging Fire.
16 of the 20 names in this year’s G1 Climax were revealed on Sunday night as well. The lineup features defending champ Konosuke Takeshita and AEW’s Gabe Kidd, his first booking since getting sidelined with an injury two months back.
