Kenny Omega now has his full focus on Wembley.
Omega successfully defended the AEW World Championship on Sunday night, beating TNT Champion Kevin Knight in the main event of Redemption from the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
Knight proved to be a tough challenger for Omega, going 25 minutes against the two-time world champ.
The rising Don Callis Family member had to resort to cheap tactics late while trying to beat Omega. After distracting the referee, Knight connected with a Crash Landing Uranage onto his TNT title late, earning him a near fall. An attempted UFO Splash was blocked by Omega, who put up his knees to counter the move. Omega countered a leaping lariat attempt into a knee mid-air, then scored a One-Winged Angel for the pinfall victory.
The post-match sequence for Redemption’s main event was full of twists and turns.
Shortly after his win, Omega was attacked by the Jon Moxley-led Death Riders. The group wrapped a chair around Omega’s head and was ready to deliver a nasty blow, until the faction’s newest member, Will Ospreay, got into the ring and intervened.
Moxley, wanting Ospreay to join in on the fight, whipped out a plastic bag and offered it to be used as a weapon. This, of course, is how the group attacked Bryan Danielson a few years prior.
Ospreay refused this request, attacked the entire group and sent them retreating, then threw his Death Riders kneepad away. He handed the AEW World Championship to Omega, who realized that he was spared from an attack by his All In opponent.
Then, moments later, Omega shockingly laid out Ospreay with a One-Winged Angel, standing over the hurt Briton as the show came to a close.
The feud between Omega and Ospreay will culminate in the main event of next month’s All In pay-per-view from Wembley Stadium in London, England. Ospreay earned the opportunity by winning this year’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament, beating Swerve Strickland in the finals at Forbidden Door.
Ospreay and Omega have faced off three times in the past, including a critically acclaimed showdown as part of NJPW’s Wrestle Kingdom 17 in 2023. They last met one-on-one three years ago at Forbidden Door, where Ospreay won in a 39-minute matchup.
Knight was trying for the third time in his career to win the AEW World Championship in Sunday’s main event. He challenged both MJF and Darby Allin for the title earlier this year, coming up short in both past instances. Knight was headlining an AEW pay-per-view for the first time ever on Sunday.
Knight, of course, still holds the TNT Championship, which he has carried since Dynasty in April, when he won a Casino Gauntlet for the vacant title. He has successfully defended the belt 10 times on TV since then, beating names like MJF, Darby Allin, and former teammate Mike Bailey.
Earlier in the night: Nightingale earns women’s championship, Maya World wins TBS belt, Speedball scores Intl. title opportunity & more
The biggest headline from Sunday night emerged in the co-main event, when Willow Nightingale captured the AEW Women’s World Championship off Thekla in a 16-minute performance. The victory makes Nightingale the first-ever AEW women’s Triple Crown champion and more importantly sets her up for a match at Wembley Stadium next month against 2026 Owen Hart Tournament winner Mercedes Moné.
Chris Jericho channelled his “Painmaker” alter ego to win a no-holds-barred match against Tommaso Ciampa, a bloody 21-minute showdown which included thumbtacks, shattered mirrors, and an homage to Montreal’s hockey rivalry with Boston. Jericho was able to make Ciampa submit after taking an electric screwdriver to his head, ending the most extreme bout of the night.
Shortly after Adam Copeland and Christian Cage mounted a come-from-behind win over PAC and Claudio Castagnoli, it was revealed that they’ll defend the AEW World Tag Team Championships against the Young Bucks at All In next month. Nick & Matt Jackson will be chasing their elusive fourth reign with the belts in the upcoming booking.
Maya World kicked off her first-ever AEW title run on Sunday night, taking the TBS Championship off Hikaru Shida in 16 minutes. 24-year-old World, who was a finalist in this year’s Owen Hart Tournament, caught Shida with a bridging fallaway slam for the pinfall victory.
One of the rougher parts of the evening saw Clark Connors and David Finlay of The Dogs beat Jay White and Juice Robinson in a chain match. Help from the Death Riders allowed The Dogs to win, as Marina Shafir slid Finlay his shillelagh to use as a weapon in the closing sequence of the bout.
A match of the night contender emerged early when Kyle Fletcher retained his AEW International Championship against ROH top star Bandido. The near 30-minute bout saw Fletcher survive a 21-Plex from Bandido and later score a teardrop brainbuster onto the top turnbuckle for the pinfall win.
Earlier in the night, Fletcher’s next opponent was determined through a hectic six-man ladder match. Quebec’s own Speedball Mike Bailey won the 20-minute bout, then later called for a match against Fletcher as part of AEW’s upcoming Grand Slam card set for Mexico. The bout was made official by the end of the night.
Will Ospreay’s growing pains with the Death Riders were on display early in the night, as he suffered a tag loss alongside Jon Moxley against the Young Bucks. Ospreay’s inability to tap into his more aggressive side, showing hesitancy to attack an injured Nick Jackson, in part caused his team to suffer the loss.
The Buy-In pre-show included a trios title match, with The Conglomeration’s Orange Cassidy, Roderick Strong and Kyle O’Reilly successfully defending against the Lethal Twist trio of Jay Lethal, Blake Christian and Lee Johnson. They will put the belts on the line again on Wednesday’s Dynamite, facing Ricochet’s The Demand.
