Welcome to Bloodsport
Josh Barnett’s Bloodsport XIII kicked off with the traditional parade of competitors, followed by Josh Barnett handing the mic to Killer Kross, even though his chyron read “Karrion Kross.” Kross hyped up the competitors and told the crowd to “tuck your f*cking chins because you’re about to witness Bloodsport.”

Leyla Hirsch vs. Jordan Blade
We then dove right into our first matchup with Jimmy Smith and Tom Lawlor on commentary, with Leyla Hirsch taking on Jordan Blade. Blade dominated Hirsch in the early goings, using her size to overpower Hirsch. Leyla continued to attempt an armbar but was overpowered by Blade, powerbombing Hirsch to the mat. Hirsch then executed a suplex on Jordan, and the two entered a slap battle. Blade then charged Hirsch, and Hirsch countered with a power slam, mounting Blade and ground and pounding her into a referee stoppage for the victory.

Maika vs. Karmen Petrovic
Next up was Karemen Petrovic taking on Maika. Maika controlled early mat-based grappling, showing her power over Petrovic. Petrovic recovered and utilized her karate kicks to take Maika down. The two then exchanged ground and pound and slaps, but Petrovic then applied a chinlock bulldog, followed by a flurry of kicks. Maika then caught Petrovic with an armbar, but she was able to escape and continue with more kicks. Maika caught Petrovic’s final kick and applied a sleeper for the tapout win.

Charlie Dempsey vs. Shinya Aoki
Next was NXT’s Charlie Dempsey taking on Shinya Aoki. The two opponents started off with a test of strength, with each man showing off their flexibility. Aoki and Dempsey traded off leg lock attempts as Dempsey tried to use his size advantage to no avail. Aoki got Dempsey into a Figure Four, but Dempsey escaped via strikes to Aoki’s chest. The two got to their feet, and Aoki got Dempsey into an Octopus hold. Dempsey escaped but got caught in a Bear Trap, but then escaped and got Aoki into a Toe Hold. After a boo-yay strike exchange, Dempsey dropped Aoki on his head with a suplex, and the referee called for the bell with a TKO win.

Karrion Kross vs. JR Kratos
The next matchup saw Las Vegas’ own Karrion Kross vs. JR Kratos. Kross held his own with the much larger Kratos and maintained an armbar early on. Kross kept his karate Gi on at the beginning of this match and finally discarded it when Kratos pulled it over Kross’ head and gained an advantage. The two started exchanging heavy strikes and slaps to the chest until Kratos hit a big clothesline and suplex on Kross, yelling “f*ck you Kross” at him in the process. Kratos was in firm control, hitting Kross with a powerbomb, but Kross responded with a headbutt and two big suplexes of his own. Kross then caught Kratos with a sleeper, and Kratos tapped out, giving Kross the win.

The Combat Icons
Next, the “Combat Icons” were introduced to the live crowd: Tank Abbott and Don Frye, who came out onto the stage and waved to the crowd.

Pete Dunne vs. Timothy Thatcher
As Pete Dunne made his entrance, Jimmy Smith noted that small joint manipulation was illegal in Bloodsport and wondered if Dunne would try it anyway. Dunne did implement joint manipulation, but it was large joint manipulation, which was perfectly legal. Thatcher then locked Dunne into a Surfboard and followed that up with a single-leg Boston Crab. The two went back and forth trying to lock in an ankle lock, but then Thatcher began to focus on Dunne’s arm and shoulder. Both competitors got back to their feet and exchanged punches, stomps, and kicks. Dunne continued to focus on Thatcher’s fingers despite the referee’s warning and then caught him with the Armbar for the tapout victory.

Nattie Neidhart vs. Miya Yamashita
Next was the much-discussed Bloodsport debut of Nattie Neidhart (not Natalya) taking on Miya Yamashita. Nattie came out to a Hart guitar remix of Killing in the Name by Rage Against the Machine. Neidhart and Yamashita exchanged slaps and attempts at leg locks, and commentary noted that it seemed like Neidhart had something to prove. The two got to their feet and exchanged big slaps, followed by a number of kicks and a guillotine by Yamashita. Neidhart went for the Sharpshooter but was countered into an Ankle Lock as Yamashita absolutely nailed Neidhart with a Spinning Heel Kick to the jaw. Nattie then sent Miya into the ring post and applied the Sharpshooter for the tapout win. After the match, Neidhart went to shake Yamashita’s hand, but Yamashita refused, and the two briefly got into a scuffle, which is against Bloodsport rules and regulations. Then, NWA’s Kenzie Page appeared in the crowd and flipped Neidhart off. The two briefly brawled in the crowd until they were separated.

Tavion Heights vs. Royce Isaacs
The next matchup of the evening was Tavion Heights taking on Royce Isaacs. Both men appeared to be evenly matched until they both got to their feet and exchanged heavy strikes, followed by a suplex by Isaacs on Heights. Heights responded with a running clothesline and an over-the-top cradle slam. Isaacs then hit a sit-out powerbomb and then applied a knee bar on Heights. The two then spilled out of the ring to the outside briefly, and as they returned, Heights hit a spinning belly-to-belly suplex, and the match was called after Heights hit multiple headbutts on Isaacs.

Konami vs. Shayna Baszler
Next on the card was Shayna Baszler, accompanied by Michin, taking on Konami. Early in the match, Baszler attempted to use the ring post to gain an advantage, but Konami was able to counter and escape. The two women then exchanged kicks until Baslzer caught Konami and suplexed her. Konami then caught Baszler in an arm bar, but Baszler countered with the stretch muffler. Konami then pushed Baszler into the ring post, but she was able to recover and hit a Perfect Plex on Konami, followed by a knee to the face for the TKO victory.

Zack Sabre Jr. vs. Jonathan Gresham
Next up was Zack Sabre Jr., squaring off against Jonathan Gresham. This was perhaps the fastest-moving match of the night, which is no surprise, having seen ZSJ matches before. Sabre Jr. controlled the first portion of the match for the most part and managed to send Gresham out of the ring twice in the first five or so minutes. Gresham then responded by calmly kicking Sabre Jr. out of the ring, evening things up a bit. ZSJ then taunted Gresham by walking up to him and putting his chin on Gresham’s head. Gresham responded with a giant chop to the chest and a snap dragon suplex. Gresham then had Sabre Jr. in a pretzel-like submission, but Sabre Jr. escaped. The two then traded staggering chest slaps followed by forearms and uppercuts. Gresham then applied the Figure Four as the crowd chanted “fight forever” with only two minutes remaining. ZSJ rolled both of them out of the ring to finally break the hold as time counted down. Both men brawled to the end, but time expired, and they went into overtime.
The bell rang again with five more minutes on the clock, and the two men exchanged kicks and chops, which kept going for over two straight minutes. Sabre Jr. then lured Gresham in with a feigned injury and followed that up with a PK to get the win. For some reason, Jimmy Smith kept calling him “Zack Sable Jr.” the whole match.

Josh Barnett vs. Gabe Kidd
The main event of the night was Bloodsport founder Josh Barnett taking on NJPW’s Gabe Kidd: War Master vs. War Ready. At one point early in the match, a kid in the crowd shouted something at Gabe Kidd, and Kidd went into the crowd to threaten him. This escalated things as Barnett was knocked to the outside, and Kidd jumped out of the ring and attacked him on the floor. Barnett then applied an ankle lock on Kidd, and the two began to exchange submission holds. Barnett then hit three unprotected headbutts on Kidd, and Kidd responded with multiple suplexes. Kidd then hit a piledriver on Barnett, and the referee called the match.
Kidd got on the mic and said “f*ck that little kid up there” referring to the kid in the crowd from earlier. Kidd talked up all the competitors from the night and said that none of this would be possible if it weren’t for Josh Barnett. Kidd said he was going crazy and considered going to the UFC, but Josh Barnett told him to get healthy, and he would have his back. Barnett then spoke, saying that he had been training with Kidd for a long time, and he was so proud of him.
"If there is anyone that has defended pro wrestling more than this man, you show me them, there isn't one."
He's right. Josh Barnett is helping keep the foundation of professional wrestling alive with catch wrestling and Bloodsport. pic.twitter.com/C11keDCMbQ
