Kazuchika Okada has become the inaugural AEW Unified Champion after defeating Kenny Omega at All In: Texas.
Okada got the better of the early going, targeting Omega’s abdomen, which we were frequently reminded is the site of his surgery for diverticulitis.
Don Callis, who was on commentary, also got involved early on, attacking a compromised Omega outside the ring.
The momentum soon swung back Omega’s way but his advantage over his opponent was short-lived as Okada appeared to have a counter for every offensive move.
This began a period when neither competitor could gain any decisive advantage over the other.
Soon, though, Okada again attacked Omega’s stomach and even faked a Rainmaker as he instead pummeled the midsection.
Okada’s arrogance was nearly his undoing as Omega rallied to deliver several V-Triggers.
After delivering a twisting full-nelson slam from the top rope, Omega grabbed a series of near-falls.
At this point, Rocky Romero of the Don Callis Family appeared but he was dealt with by Kota Ibushi.
Omega then successfully hit the One Winged Angel, but Callis yanked Bryce Remsburg out of the ring before he could make the count.
Aubrey Edwards ran to the ring to provide a fresh official as the competitors took forearm swings at each other.
In the finish, Okada hit a decisive Rainmaker to get the three-count.
