Naomi has retained the Women’s World Championship in the opening match of SummerSlam night 2.

Before the show proper got underway, comedian and influencer Druski once again presented a hype package for the show, promising, “we ain’t seen nothing yet.”

Paul Levesque echoed that line when he took to the ring. He told the fans this was their time as part of “the biggest SummerSlam in history.” The stage was then set for Sunday’s card.

Ripley was first to make her entrance, to a fan-favorite reaction. SKY followed, with World Champion Naomi the last to make her way down the ramp. She was played out by guitarist Shawn McCray, who happens to be her father.

As the bell rang, Naomi rolled out to leave the other two women alone. But Ripley and SKY cornered her, forcing her back onto the canvas to double-team the heel until Rhea accidentally kicked SKY.

Naomi enjoyed a spell of dominance, beating down SKY and sinking her teeth into Ripley’s hand as the Aussie grasped the ropes.

The tide turned as SKY and Ripley cooperated to send Naomi from the ring, leaving the two faces to go at it.

IYO had Ripley in pinning position after a poisonrana but it was broken up by Naomi. The champion then broke up a pinning attempt by Ripley.

The action spilled outside the ring, with SKY hitting both her opponents with a moonsault.

Back in the ring, IYO looked set for the Over the Moonsault on Naomi, but Ripley interfered.

Soon after, one of the biggest near-falls of the match occurred with Ripley hitting the Riptide on Naomi, only for the pin to be broken by IYO.

In the finish, Ripley successfully hit a Riptide on IYO from the second rope. As Rhea went for the pin, Naomi managed to roll her up for the flash pin to retain.
