Numerous reports have indicated that Wrestlemania could be heading to Saudi Arabia in 2027.
On Wednesday evening, word got around that a Snapchat post from Saudi Arabia’s Chairman of the General Entertainment Authority, Turki Alalshikh, had announced the Wrestlemania location for 2027.
Since then, reports from many outlets have backed up the rumor. Dave Meltzer noted on the latest Wrestling Observer Radio that the event is “for sure” happening, stating that WWE hoped to head there in 2028 for a Mania, but the country pushed for hosting the event one year earlier than that.
PWInsider similarly also said that the news was real, expecting an announcement “very soon.”
A “higher up” in WWE said “when there’s smoke, there’s fire” when asked about the Wrestlemania plans, per Fightful Select.
Details regarding a 2027 Wrestlemania have yet to be officially announced by WWE.
If confirmed, the event would mark the first time ever that Wrestlemania has ventured outside of North America in its 40-year history. All of its past events have taken place in America or Canada, mostly targeting large stadium-sized venues in recent years, consistently attracting over 60,000 fans per night as of late.
It was announced earlier this year that Wrestlemania 42, next year’s event, will take place over the course of two nights at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.
It was previously announced that New Orleans, Louisiana, would host the event, although plans changed a few months after that was unveiled. After the move, a statement from the Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation confirmed that they would still receive a Wrestlemania during “a future year.”
WWE has made annual trips to Saudi Arabia since 2018, when a massive 10-year partnership was inked with the country. Over a dozen Premium Live Events (PLEs) have taken place in the there since then, including Night of Champions, Crown Jewel, and Elimination Chamber.
Saudi Arabia is expected to host its first-ever Royal Rumble in January of next year in Riyadh. Specifics regarding the venue have yet to be confirmed. WWE previously hosted an event titled Greatest Royal Rumble in Saudi Arabia, although it was an extra Rumble event, separate from the company’s annual January/February card, which has major Wrestlemania main event implications.
Saudi Arabia’s Alalshikh has said for years that he hoped to bring the Royal Rumble or Wrestlemania to the country, noting such hopes back in a 2024 interview with ESPN. Not too far removed from that interview, it now looks like the country is going to accomplish both quite soon.
