Stephanie Vaquer defeated IYO SKY at WWE Wrestlepalooza on Saturday to become the new Women’s World Champion.
The championship was declared vacant on the August 25, 2025, edition of Monday Night Raw, after the previous champion, Naomi, relinquished the title following her pregnancy announcement.
The victory marks the first main roster championship for Vaquer, who signed with WWE in late 2024 after a successful career in CMLL. After debuting on the main roster in April 2025, she earned her opportunity at the title by winning a number one contender’s battle royal at the Evolution premium live event in June. SKY was placed in the match as she had been the next scheduled challenger for Naomi.
The bout began as a technical showcase, with both women exchanging holds and a series of quick pinning combinations. SKY took control by targeting Vaquer’s leg with a chop block and a knee lock submission, but Vaquer fought back, using a tarantula submission in the ropes to injure SKY’s arm.
Momentum shifted again when SKY hit a missile dropkick from the top rope, followed by a suicide dive to the outside. Vaquer countered a subsequent attack by sending SKY off the ring apron with a double knee strike before hitting a dive of her own. Back in the ring, the action grew more intense as the two traded suplexes, punches, and chops.
The final minutes of the match saw several dramatic near-falls. Vaquer survived a crossface submission from SKY, who in turn kicked out of Vaquer’s signature powerbomb finisher. SKY later hit a Spanish Fly from the top rope, but Vaquer kicked out of the ensuing pinfall attempt at two.
The finish came when SKY attempted her Over the Moonsault but Vaquer rolled out of the way. Vaquer immediately capitalized on the opening, climbing to the top rope and hitting a spiral moonsault to secure the pinfall and win the championship.
