Dwayne Johnson has received a Golden Globe nomination for his portrayal of former MMA fighter Mark Kerr in “The Smashing Machine”.
Nominations were revealed on Monday, with Johnson among the six vying for Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Motion Picture. He is nominated alongside Joel Edgerton (“Train Dreams”), Oscar Issac (“Frankenstein”), Michael B. Jordan (“Sinners”), Wagner Moura (“The Secret Agent”), and Jeremy Allen White (“Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere”).
His co-star Emily Blunt received a nomination for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role, playing the role of Kerr’s partner, Dawn Staples, in the film.
The film received early buzz after reactions at various film festivals, but had a disappointing run at the box office, only generating $21 million worldwide and $11.4 million domestically.
The A24 film was an adaptation of the HBO Sports documentary of the same name, released over two decades ago, profiling Kerr as he battled substance issues while competing for PRIDE.
The 2026 Golden Globe Awards will be hosted by Nikki Glaser and will air Sunday, January 11, on CBS and Paramount+.
