Tony Khan has announced that the AEW Dark brand will return for a one-off special recorded in Cardiff, Wales.

Speaking to the live crowd before tonight’s AEW Collision taping at the Utilita Arena, the AEW President revealed he secured permission for the taping as a holiday treat for fans.

Khan told the audience that he approached media partners Warner Bros. Discovery to approve the brief revival of the web series, which was discontinued in 2023.

Because I love Cardiff so much, I went to the great executives at Warner Bros. Discovery, the great company that powers the engine that makes AEW possible and I said to them, “Please, it’s a holiday season, for one night only, because there’s hardcore AEW fans in Cardiff this holiday season tonight I want to bring back, for one night only, AEW Dark.”

And you know what they said? They said yes. We’ll come out at the very end of the night and we’ll finish the night out with the one-night-only holiday episode of AEW Dark.

Khan noted that the matches would take place following the live broadcast of Collision, featuring “some of the biggest stars” in the company.

AEW Dark originally launched on October 8, 2019, airing on the promotion’s YouTube channel. Initially conceived to broadcast dark matches filmed before Dynamite, the series evolved significantly during the COVID-19 pandemic. It often featured marathon runtimes and provided a platform for independent talent during the lockdown era at Daily’s Place.

The show, along with its sister program Dark: Elevation, was canceled in April 2023. The cessation of the YouTube shows was part of a consolidated rights agreement with Warner Bros. Discovery, leading into the launch of Collision that June.

Khan did not explicitly confirm distribution details. However, the special is expected to be uploaded to AEW’s YouTube channel.
