Former AEW World Champion Samoa Joe is currently out of action due to injury, it was announced on Wednesday night.

While speaking about the numerous contenders going after MJF’s AEW World Championship, a program Joe has been part of in recent weeks, Dynamite commentator Excalibur noted that the former champ has been pulled from action for the time being due to injury.

“Joe suffered a non-contact injury during training earlier this week,” Excalibur said. “[He’s] not immediately cleared for action but still remains a huge threat for the title.”

It’s unclear how long Joe will be out of action due to the setback. It seems he has been taken out of the world title program due to his injury, with AEW recognizing by the end of Wednesday’s show that the remaining talents in the hunt for the opportunity are Kenny Omega, Hangman Adam Page, and Andrade El Idolo.
