Zack Sabre Jr. and Shota Umino have secured the last two quarterfinal spots in the 2026 New Japan Cup.
The second round of the tournament concluded on Saturday in Nagoya, Aichi.
Sabre defeated TMDK teammate Ryohei Oiwa in the main event at the Nagoya Kinjo Pier Arena in a match that lasted over 28 minutes. Oiwa targeted his opponent’s leg throughout the encounter. However, Sabre countered a Grip attempt into a Sabre Driver to achieve the pinfall victory.
Earlier, Umino eliminated Yujiro Takahashi.
Takahashi initially rejected ringside assistance from his House of Torture stablemates. However, he eventually resorted to a low blow, which prompted interference from Yoshinobu Kanemaru, Dick Togo, and Chase Owens. Umino survived the ambush and connected with a Second Chapter to win the match.
Sabre and Umino will face each other in the quarterfinal round on Tuesday, March 17, in Fukushima. Hirooki Goto will also wrestle Callum Newman on that date.
The first two quarterfinal matches take place on Sunday in Kofu. Yuya Uemura meets Shingo Takagi, while Oleg Boltin will face Ren Narita.
