An incident at WWE headquarters last weekend caused a power outage for parts of Connecticut.
On Saturday evening, a massive American flag displayed atop WWE’s main office in Stamford, Connecticut, was torn off the building during a storm in the area.
Caught by the aggressive winds, the flag went airborne, landing on a power line just nearby. Footage captured by an onlooker showed the moment the flag made contact with the electrical equipment, causing a brief explosion.

The incident caused about 5,000 customers in Stamford to lose power, a utility spokesperson for the city told the Greenwich Times recently. Most were able to have their power restored within 20 minutes.
Spokesperson Kaitlyn Woods said that a second outage occurred on Sunday when their team was in the process of taking down the flag. This caused an outage affecting around 20,000 more customers in Greenwich.
Luckily, the brief outage was the worst of the flag incident. Stamford Deputy Fire Chief Matt Palmer said firefighters who arrived on scene didn’t report a fire, and that the flag, albeit heavily damaged, was retrieved by Sunday.
