Sareee has a contingency plan in case her neck is not healed in time for this week’s AEW Summer Blockbuster show.
The freelancer announced last month she was taking time off to handle a neck injury right before she was announced as one of the eight women in the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament by AEW.
Sareee’s opening round match against Skye Blue is set for Wednesday’s Summer Blockbuster show in Cincinnati, but it’s not a guarantee Sareee will wrestle. She tells Tokyo Sports that tag partner Takumi Iroha will accompany her and take her spot in the match if she doesn’t receive medical clearance.
I’m not yet in a state where my neck is in perfect shape for my comeback in America. We also got permission from AEW, and this time Takumi will accompany us as our second. If anything happens to me, she’ll come in as a pinch hitter. I’m in a tag team called Spark Rush with Takumi, and I hope to get advice from (Masahiro) Chono together this time.
Sareee has not wrestled since May 12 and held the AAAW tag titles with Iroha last year in Marvelous.
Wednesday’s Summer Blockbuster is listed for a three-hour programming block by TBS.
