After taking down one big team, Cope & Cage have an even bigger assignment set for next month.
Adam Copeland and Christian Cage successfully defended the AEW World Tag Team Championships on Sunday night, taking down Claudio Castagnoli and PAC of the Death Riders in a come-from-behind performance.
Shortly after the bout, the Young Bucks came to the ring and had a face-to-face with the champs. As the two teams stared eachother down, a graphic on the venue’s screens showed that the Young Bucks will challenge Cope & Cage for the tag titles at AEW All In inside Wembley Stadium next month.
To maintain tag champ status, Cope & Cage had to mount a tough comeback against the Death Riders in Montreal this weekend.
PAC and Castagnoli had a head start in the match, attacking Adam Copeland during his entrance. Christian Cage came in for the save, but was also beaten down and left laid out at ringside by the time the match officially started.
The heel team had a lead for a large portion of the match. They were able to isolate Copeland briefly, dumping him over the guardrail and into the crowd.
The champs crawled back into the fight and eventually took out the tag duo. Cage delivered a spear to Castagnoli, then tossed PAC into a mid-air spear from Copeland for the pinfall finish in 18 minutes.
Copeland and Cage started their first tag title reign together in 25 years when they captured the AEW World Tag Team Championships earlier this year, dethroning FTR at Double or Nothing. They went on to defend their belts against The Dogs and the Death Riders duo of Daniel Garcia and Wheeler Yuta before Sunday night.
While PAC and Castagnoli have earned trios gold before, carrying AEW’s six-man tag belts alongside Wheeler Yuta from late 2024 to early 2025, Sunday saw them try to capture the tag titles for the first time ever.
The Young Bucks will be chasing an elusive fourth run with the top AEW tag titles in England next month. They most recently tried for the titles at Revolution in March, falling to FTR in a 19-minute match.
