Fiesta en México

AEW Grand Slam Mexico kicked off with Adam Copeland and Christian Cage teaming with The Young Bucks taking on Jon Moxley, Pac, Wheeler Yuta, and Daniel Yuta of the Death Riders. The Arena Mexico crowd was hot for the start of this show, reacting huge to moves by Cage, Copeland, and the Bucks, including Christian hitting a dive from the ring post onto a pile of bodies on the outside. 

After a commercial break, Daniel Garcia applied a Lion Tamer to Nick Jackson until Matt broke up the submission attempt. Things built to a hot tag to Adam Copeland as he took on both Mxo and Pac simultaneously. A four-on-one occurred with Moxley taking offense from all four of his opponents until the other Death Riders made the save. Mox attempted the Death Rider, but Copeland reversed and hit the Impaler instead. Copeland set up for the Spear, but Marin Shafir got involved and got a kick below the belt from Christian for her efforts. 

Finally, Copeland hit the Spear on Moxley, but Yuta grabbed the referee so he could not make the pinfall. Copeland was thrown into Matt Jackson on the ring apron and rolled up by Moxley with a handful of tights for the win. As the segment ended, the Bucks argued with Copeland and Cage.

Casino Gauntlet #1 Slot Match

The next match featured Tommaso Ciampa taking on Komander and Andrade in a three-way match to determine who would be the first entrant in the Casino Gauntlet match at All In London. As the match began, Andrade kissed the Dynamite Diamond Ring, still in his possession since he swiped it from MJF some weeks ago. Not even two minutes into the match, Komander hit his Spaceman rope-walk Moonsault to a massive ovation from the crowd.

Ciampa threw Andrade into the ringside barricade, causing Andrade to flip backward over it into the timekeeper’s area. As the show was in commercial, Ciampa took the phone from the woman who had just taken a selfie with Andrade and took a photo down his tights, leaving the announcers aghast. 

After that, Andrade took off his pants, and Ciampa began to attack Andrade’s pants until Komander came in with a 450 Splash as Ciampa moved out of the way, hitting just the pants. 

Things picked up from there with near falls occurring left and right. Andrade hit the Cielito Lindo on Ciampa, but Andrade grabbed Komander before he could execute the pinfall and hit him with Dia de los Muertos for the win.

Andrade cut a promo after the match, saying he was proud to hold the National title but wanted more, and that he would win the Casino Gauntlet match at All In. MJF then made his return, jumping Andrade from behind with the “Triple B”. MJF took back the Dynamite Diamond Ring and then nailed Andrade with it. 

MJF cut a promo running down Andrade and Mexico, claiming to be the Champion while holding up his world title. MJF said he had Kenny Omega dead to rights at Beach Break until Will Ospreay got involved. Max said the main event at Wembley was his, and that Omega was a paper champion. MJF announced that next week in Las Vegas he would compete in and win the #2 Spot in the Casino Gauntlet match and go on to get his title back. 

A vignette for Willow Nightingale vs. Mercedes Moné aired next. 

Women’s Trios Match

Next, Women’s Tag Champions Divine Dominion teamed with Mercedes Moné to take on The Brawling Birds and AEW Champion Willow Nightingale. Things broke down early in the match as all six women attempted suplexes, leading to Jamie Hayter hitting a dive off the top rope onto all three heels on the floor.

Willow fought from underneath until finally tagging “Two Brits with the Tits,” as Nigel referred to them. All six women exchanged moves in the ring as the referee decided to stop enforcing any rule about one-on-one competition. Willow set up for Babe with the Powerbomb, but Divine Dominion put a stop to it. The Brawling Birds responded, taking out Bayne and Kross, and Willow caught Mercedes Moné with a backslide for the win. 

International Championship

With barely a pause in between, the next match was the International Championship defense by Kyle Fletcher, taking on Speedball Mike Bailey. The story going into this match was that Bailey and Fletcher were 1- 1 after Speedball beat Fletcher in the Continental Classic last year, and Speedball failed to challenge for the TNT title earlier this year. Early in the match, Fletcher caught a Bailey dive to the outside and lawn-darted him into the ringside barrier. 

Business picked up from there as both men hit big maneuvers and near falls, including Fletcher hitting an Avalanche Michinoku Driver.

The action spilled onto the stage as Speedball ran up the steps and hit a Moonsault onto Fletcher as the crowd chanted “This is wrestling” in Spanish.

Fletcher hit his running boot to the face, followed by the Brainbuster, but Speedball kicked out to a massive pop. Bailey followed that up with a Super Rana and the Ultima Weapon for a massive near fall. Finally, Fletcher hit the Turnbuckle Brainbuster to pick up the pinfall victory. 

As Fletcher was celebrating his win, Okada made his entrance ahead of his trios match, and the two had a brief staredown on the ramp as Don Callis tried to keep things calm. 

Champions Trios Match

The next match saw the Don Callis Family’s Kazuchika Okada, Hechicero, and TNT Champion Kevin Knight teaming up to face the bizarre trio of “Corazon de Leon” Chris Jericho, Darby Allin, and Mistico. As Darby was making his way to the ring, Kevin Knight hit a Springboard, knocking Allin off his skateboard. Knight followed that up by throwing Darby crotch-first onto the ringside barricade. 

As the match went on, Darby went for a dive onto Knight on the outside when Okada caught him with a dropkick instead.

Action built to a hot tag to Mistico but was quickly triple-teamed by the Don Callis Family, only to take all three down by himself. From there, Allin, Jericho, and Mistico all hit dives from the top rope onto their opponents. 

Knight set up for the coast-to-coast but was caught mid-air by the Judas Effect and applied the Liontamer on Okada. Mistico hit La Mistica on Hechicero, and Darby hit the Coffin Drop on Kevin Knight for the pinfall victory. 

Statlander vs. Persephone

Next up, Kris Statlander took on Persephone with Thunder Rosa in the crowd, cheering on her friend Kris Statlander. Early on, Persephone was in control, hitting a dive onto Statlander on the outside and getting into the face of Rosa. 

After a 1:59 ad break (as described by Excalibur for some reason), the momentum shifted back and forth as Statlander nearly picked up the win with a Seatbelt pin. Statlander missed a 450 splash, landing awkwardly on her bottom and possibly slipping off the top. Persephone went to grab Thunder Rosa’s National Championship and ended up hitting her with it after pulling her into the ringside area. Statlander hit a dive on Persephone but took out the referee at the same time.

Shida appeared from out of nowhere, nailing Statlander with the National title. Persephone hit a Springboard Frogsplash for the victory as the referee recovered to make the count. After the match, Persephone signaled that she wanted Rosa’s National title as Maya World and Hyan ran down to help Statlander. 

Trios Championship

The next match was The Demand defending their Trios titles against The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly, aka Hangman Adam Page and Brodido. The face team was played out by a Mariachi Band and sported Three Amigos-style outfits. Tony Schiavone noted that this was Hangman’s first match in 144 days since losing to MJF at Revolution. 

Both Hangman and Brody King showed off their not-often-used Lucha skills with a Tierras and a Springboard Arm Drag, respectively. Bandido followed that up with a top-rope springboard dive of his own. 

During the commercial, Kemalito, who accompanied the face team to the ring, was brought into the ring by The Demand and stomped.
