A Knight in Iowa

Monday Night Raw from Des Moines kicked off with Roman Reigns cutting an in-ring promo, talking about “delivering” last night at SummerSlam. The crowd booed as Seth Rollins hailed from nearby Davenport, IA, and Reigns acknowledged his brother, encouraging the crowd to sing his theme song.

LA Knight interrupted and congratulated Reigns on his SummerSlam win, specifically for doing so without assistance. Knight said Reigns was still a fraud and that he had beaten The Bloodline, so now he owed him. He challenged Reigns to a title match at the time of Roman’s choosing, and Reigns responded by insulting Knight’s clothes and saying that you don’t get a title shot by “bitching and moaning,” directing Knight to the back of the line. Knight said he was lightning in a bottle and everything that Reigns wished he was. With that, Knight left, and Reigns was left stewing in the ring.

Je’Von Evans vs. Ethan Page

The first match of the night (and none were announced in advance of the show beginning) was Je’Von Evans taking on Ethan Page. Evans was in control early on, hitting a big dive onto Page on the outside. Page finally hit a single kick of offense, and the show went to commercial just three minutes into the match. Upon return, Evans fought from underneath, attempting to mount a comeback when Page jumped onto the middle rope as Evans was attempting a springboard. The action spilled to the outside, and Evans hit the running dive onto Page in the timekeeper’s area that he seems to do every week now. Page attempted a pin with his feet on the ropes, and the ref somehow saw it despite looking nowhere near where his feet were. Evans leapfrogged both Page and the referee as they were arguing, and Evans hit the OG Cutter for the win. 

After the match, Big Cass appeared, attacking Je’Von Evans and hitting him with the East River Crossing to boos from the crowd. Surprising that he is a heel, as all his history and the recent promos pointed towards a face run. 

Backstage, Reigns was complaining to the Bloodline about losing their tag match at SummerSlam. He questioned where Solo Sikoa was, saying he should be at his side. Reigns said that Royce Keys was not part of their family and that they should not trust anyone else. Roman finished by instructing them not to touch LA Knight. Knight appeared and goaded them after hearing what Roman said. With that, Knight left the building. 

After a commercial, Royce Keys approached Jacob Fatu and said he was his family. Fatu said Royce wasn’t his family; he was Bloodline. Fatu challenged Keys to a street fight for later tonight. 

Roxanne Perez vs. Sol Ruce

Liv Morgan, Raquel Rodriguez, and Roxanne Perez were out next to cut a promo where Morgan said she was done with Iyo Sky and she had no more challengers. They turned their attention to Sol Ruca, who was out next to face Perez. The match began in commercial after Ruca jumped Perez before she was ready. 

After the ad break, Michael Cole noted that Liv Morgan called Raquel her “best friend” while referring to Roxanne only as her “prodigy”. Back in the ring, Ruca put Perez into a Surfboard, following that up with a kick to the face. Ruca hit a moonsault off the second rope to the floor and then back in the ring; Perez knocked Ruca off the top rope as the show went to yet another commercial. Upon return, both wrestlers went back and forth, with Ruca hitting the X Factor. Ruca went for the Sol Snatcher when Liv Morgan interfered, causing the DQ.

The three attacked Ruca until Becky Lynch returned and said she was done with the Intercontinental title, and she came for Liv Morgan – to ensure it wasn’t another 100 days until she defended again. Becky called her a “glorified valet” and said a Women’s Champion should be “fightin’ not flirtin'”. Liv responded, saying that Becky should be at home “being a mommy” and said Becky was jealous of her.

Judgment Day went to leave when Stephanie Vaquer returned, taking out Raquel and Roxanne, and then took out Morgan as well. Vaquer and Lynch had a staredown and started arguing as the segment ended.  

 

Brock Retired..? Or…

A video aired with wrestlers talking about missing Brock Lesnar after SummerSlam this past weekend, and Michael Cole said something along the lines of it possibly being the last time we see him. After it ended, Paul Heyman was approached by “King of the Ring” Oba Femi, who asked him to thank Brock for him. Heyman offered his congratulations, and Femi walked off. 

The Conqueror of the Ring

Oba Femi was out next, with his lower third graphics referring to him throughout the show as the King of the Ring. So apparently that is a thing again. Femi talked about him and Brock finding respect for each other after SummerSlam. Femi said he would lead a new generation of superstars, and the old guard would fall. He concluded by saying that if anyone had an issue with that, they would answer to the Ruler. Before Femi could get to the back, The Vision appeared, and Femi had a staredown with Bron Breakker. 

Bron Breakker vs. Joe Hendry

Next was the aforementioned Bron Breakker taking on Joe Hendry. Breakker was in a trance throughout the entire commercial break, staring at the stage after the interaction with Oba Femi. Forty seconds after the bell rang, Breakker nailed Hendry with a clothesline and returned to staring at the stage. Hendry attacked Austin Theory on the outside and leapfrogged a Breakker spear attempt. Hendry threw Theory over the announce table and got hit by a Breakker spear when he returned to the ring. Breakker stormed to the back, and Austin Theory began an attack on Hendry until Tozawa appeared to fight Theory off. 

Big Cass was interviewed backstage and said he was left for dead in the dirt, and it took him eight years to get back. He said he was here to stack bodies, and Je’Von Evans was just in his way, and he wouldn’t be the last.

Gable & Penta vs. Dominik & JD

New Intercontinental Champion Chad Gable and his terrific entrance theme were out next to thank Penta, calling him potentially the greatest Luchador in the history of the business. Gable thanked the fans next for sticking with him, even when he was “Shorty G”. Penta came out and gave Gable his flowers, and he earned his respect. Dominik Mysterio and JD McDonagh interrupted, leading to a match that began after a commercial break. 

Early in the match, Judgment Day controlled, and things built to a hot tag to Gable as Penta hit a Tope con Hilo. Back in the ring, Gable hit an Angle Slam on Dom for a near fall. After another commercial, Gable fought from underneath, building to a tag to Penta. Penta hit the Penta Driver on Dom, but JD made the save before the three count. Gable caught Dom with the Ankle Lock, but JD broke it up. Penta took JD to the outside and hit him with the Mexican Destroyer. Dom got the ring bell hammer and put it into his boot, but Chad caught him. Penta hit Dom with the IC title behind the referee’s back, and Gable hit the Chaos Theory for the win.
