NXT 2.0 notes: Santos Escobar helps Hayes def. D’Angelo, #1 Contenders match, Nikkita Lyons

Santos Escobar costs Tony D'Angelo a potential title win, Nikkita Lyons returning next week, #1 contenders match on 6/28, Wes Lee's promo

In the main event of the 6/21 NXT 2.0, Tony D’Angelo challenged Carmelo Hayes for the North American Championship. There was a point during the match when D’Angelo looked over to Escobar to hand him brass knuckles. Escobar decided to slide the brass knuckles over to Hayes which the champion used to retain his title.

Legado Del Fantasma (Escobar, Cruz Del Toro & Joaquin Wilde) lost to D’Angelo, Troy ‘Two Dimes’ Donovan and Channing ‘Stacks’ Lorenzo at NXT In Your House and as a result, had to integrate themselves into the D’Angelo family.

After being forced to pull out of the NXT Women’s Breakout tournament due to a partially torn MCL, Nikkita Lyons is returning on next week’s show.

Toxic Attraction (Mandy Rose, Gigi Dolin & Jacy Jayne) were confronted by Cora Jade and NXT Women’s Breakout tournament winner Roxanne Perez. Roxanne expressed that as much as she would like to use her Breakout tournament contract to get a shot at Mandy Rose’s NXT Women’s Title, she also wants to win the Tag Titles from Jacy and Gigi.

Cora and Roxanne were then interrupted by Kayden Carter and Katana Chance who scored a win in tag team action earlier in the night. The two teams brawled near the entrance and it was made official that next week, Jade and Perez are facing Carter and Chance. The winners will move on to Great American Bash on July 5th to challenge for the NXT Women’s Tag Titles.

Wes Lee had an in-ring promo segment and spoke about the last few months of his career. He brought up that he was NXT Tag Team Champion alongside his ‘brother’, the now free agent Zachary Wentz f.k.a. Nash Carter. Lee was interrupted by Trick Williams.

During Joe Gacy’s segment, he stated that The Dyad (his druids) have been tag team champions before.

To open the show, Grayson Waller was able to score a win over Solo Sikoa after Sikoa ran into an exposed turnbuckle. Sikoa had not lost a singles match since April.

In addition to the #1 contenders match, scheduled for the 6/28 show is Xyon Quinn versus Sanga.
