Jay Briscoe was honored by New Japan Pro Wrestling and Pro Wrestling NOAH at Wrestle Kingdom 17, Night 2.
Before the main card began at the Yokohama Arena, Kanagawa, members of both promotions filed to the ringside area.
Hiroshi Tanahashi and Naomichi Marufuji stood in the ring holding portraits of Jay during a ten-bell salute. The Briscoes’ Ring of Honor theme ‘Reach for the Sky, Boy’ was then played.
Together with his brother Mark, The Briscoes had strong ties to both promotions.
In New Japan, they held the IWGP Tag Team Championships on one occasion, and the NEVER Openweight Six-Man Tag Team Championships twice, alongside Toru Yano.
In Pro Wrestling NOAH, The Briscoes held the GHC Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championships.
Jay Briscoe, real name Jamin Pugh, died at the age of 38 in an auto accident on Tuesday, January 17th, in Laurel, Delaware.
