Mox also shared his plans for Shota Umino if he wins the G1.

For two consecutive days, the New Japan STRONG brand ran their Independence Day events at Korakuen Hall on July 4th and 5th. There were multiple titles changes as the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team, STRONG Openweight Tag Team, STRONG Openweight and STRONG Women’s Titles changed hands.

Headlining both nights was AEW’s Jon Moxley. He tagged with Homicide to face El Desperado and Jun Kasai on night one and then had a Death Match against Desperado on night two.

Tokyo Sports caught up with Moxley after the Independence Day shows and he commented on the idea of facing IWGP World Heavyweight Champion SANADA. Moxley mentioned that he’s already been WWE and AEW World Champion.

I’ve been WWE World Heavyweight Champion and AEW World Champion, but I’m not IWGP World Heavyweight Champion yet… If I were to fight SANADA, I’d have an image of myself as the IWGP World Champion, so I think it would be interesting.

Shota Umino is in the A block of the 2023 G1 Climax tournament. Moxley said if Umino wins the G1, he wants to take him out to the adult restaurants in Shinjuku, Japan. Mox added that he’s past drinking alcohol so he’ll allow Shota to take over in that department.

I want to take him (Shota Umino) to Shinjuku and show him all kinds of adult restaurants. I’ve already graduated from that side of things, and I can’t drink alcohol anymore, so I’ll let him inherit everything.

On July 19th, Moxley is going to be competing in AEW Blood & Guts. He’ll be standing side-by-side with Claudio Castagnoli, Wheeler Yuta, Konosuke Takeshita and a mystery partner to take on The Elite (Kenny Omega, Hangman Adam Page, Matt & Nick Jackson) and their mystery partner.
