The opportunity to be in the tournament was on the table in 2022.

NWA’s 2023 installment of the Crockett Cup tournament saw Trevor Murdoch and Mike Knox emerge victorious. There was an opportunity on the table for Murdoch to be in the 2022 version of the tournament

He guest appeared on Bobby Fish’s Undisputed Podcast and shared that he was told he could be in the 2022 tournament. He turned it down because he had just lost the title to Matt Cardona a month prior and did not want to be an add-on with a random partner.

Later on in my career, I get to be a part of NWA and I start thinking, alright, I could be a part of the Crockett Cup. The NWA World Title kind of hopped in front of all that and I was World Champion, it’s eliminated me from an opportunity there and then the last year I was gonna do it, I ended up losing the title and I told them, I was like, ‘No. I don’t want to be a part of the Crockett Cup as an add-on because I just don’t wanna have any old regular partner that you’re throwing in with me and then, I’d rather just not do it.

Elsewhere in the conversation, Murdoch confirmed that he is under a deal with the National Wrestling Alliance.
