Former AEW World Tag Team Champion Ricky Starks reportedly isn’t leaving the promotion just yet.
A recent report from Ibou of WrestlePursists, along with a follow-up story from Fightful Select, have noted that Starks was denied a release request by AEW in recent months, keeping him under contract for the time being.
Starks, despite being tied to an ongoing contract with AEW, hasn’t appeared as part of in-ring action in nearly 10 months. His last wrestling match under their promotional banner came back in March 2024, when he was still working as a tag duo alongside Big Bill.
Starks has infrequently appeared on indie bookings since then, most recently working a title match against Mike Santana at House of Glory’s Watch The Throne card last weekend.
Late last year, Starks was announced for a series of appearances on GCW shows but was then suddenly pulled from the events. It was reported at the time that AEW had made the call for Starks to be removed from the shows.
Fightful is reporting that the AEW contract of Starks will last until this spring, although the exact date that his contract will end around is not known at the moment.
