Now, GUNTHER feels he’s back on track.
GUNTHER is six months into his reign as WWE World Heavyweight Champion. He’s the fourth name to hold the current iteration of the belt and thus far, he’s had five televised defenses.
Coming up for him is a title defense against Jey Uso at WrestleMania 41. On the lead-up to WrestleMania, WWE is going to be touring Europe and to promote that, GUNTHER chatted with Daily Mail. He expressed to the outlet that the last few months of his run were not ideal, but now he’s back to himself.
I don’t think the last few months were ideal for me. I lost to Cody (Rhodes), and then everything that — that feud with (Damian) Priest, it didn’t allow me to show the best side of me, if that makes sense. But I think now I’m back to my old self. I feel my mojo again.
He was asked about John Cena retiring at the end of the year. GUNTHER is on board with facing Cena. He said maybe he can be the person standing in front of Cena getting to his 17th WWE World Title.
It’s the last chance to get in the ring with him, so if that ever becomes a possibility, I would definitely take that. John Cena is obviously one of the wrestlers, you can put him onto Mount Rushmore. If I get the chance, I would definitely like to do that. Let’s see how it plays out. Maybe I can end up as his last chance to win a championship at some point in that year, and I can be the one that crushes all those dreams. That would be very enjoyable.
There was a brawl between Jey Uso and GUNTHER on the 2/17 Raw. To hear a review of that segment, check out John Pollock and Wai Ting on the newest Rewind-A-Raw episode.
