The title match is official.
The 2025 installment of the New Japan Cup tournament is kicking off on March 7th. The day prior to the tournament, NJPW presented their 53rd Anniversary Event.
Headlining the match lineup was Hirooki Goto defending the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship against Hiroshi Tanahashi. After retaining over Tanahashi, he then called Yuji Nagata to the ring to offer him a shot at the title.
Nagata accepted and New Japan has since made it official for the March 15th New Japan Cup date.
The winner of the New Japan Cup tournament will challenge for the IWGP World Heavyweight Title at Sakura Genesis on April 5th.
