In 2021, Chelsea Green was part of a batch of talent releases by WWE. She recounted that time period while guest appearing on Pod Meets World.
Green shared that her husband Matt Cardona was who informed her about her incoming release. Cardona had been let go from the company a year prior. Someone contacted Cardona and relayed to him that Green was going to be released and then he informed her before WWE called.
Yes (I always felt I would be returning to WWE after 2021 release). I knew, I knew. The minute they fired me — so I got a call about three minutes before I was fired from my husband saying, ‘You’re about to get fired.’ He had just got a text like, ‘Chelsea’s gonna be called. She’s next on the list.’ So he gave me the heads-up. I’m not an emotional person so I wouldn’t have cried or flew off the handle. But it just gave me a split-second to (take it in). So when they called me, I was like, ‘Okay. Thank you. Hopefully, I’ll see you in the future…’
Present day, Green is back in WWE and is the first-ever and reigning Women’s United States Champion. She was in action against Zelina Vega on the 4/18 Friday Night SmackDown.
