Rey Mysterio Introduces Worlds Collide
The show starts with a narration from Rey Mysterio hyping up this event while showing highlights of past and present luchadores. This was very well done and felt epic. This transitions to Corey Graves on commentary as we see Mysterio, Stephanie Vaquer, Lola Vice, Chad Gable, and El Hijo del Vikingo entering the building. Graves then introduces Konnan, stating that how was in the main event of the first ever When Worlds Collide in 1994.
We see Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Marisela Pena, Blue Demon, and more in the ring as Deyra Barrera (featured heavily on the recent Kendrick Lamar GNX album) does the Mexican national anthem, while Lilian Garcia does the United States anthem.
Rey Mysterio makes his way to the ring to a huge reaction, as they say he was the recipient of the Legend Impact Award from the National Hispanic Media Council last night. Mysterio talks about the original When Worlds Collide in 1994 and starts to get a bit choked up, saying he thought that Lucha Libre would only be seen in Mexico, but he’s blessed and proud to be part of the evolution of Lucha Libre. Mysterio continues that the entire world can see the one thing that Mysterio fell in love with as a kid.
Mr. Iguana, Aero Star & Octagon Jr. vs. LWO (Dragon Lee &Cruz Del Toro) & Lince Dorado
Lince Dorado is the replacement for the recently injured Joaquin Wilde. We see Dominik Mysterio & Liv Morgan watching from the crowd as Konnan talks about Dominik being very disrespectful lately. Octagon Jr. & Cruz Del Toro start the match, as Konnan reiterates how this isn’t your traditional wrestling. Octagon & Del Toro have a nice starting sequence that the fans love, as Mr. Iguana & Lince Dorado tag in. Iguana gets a pretty big reaction from this crowd. Iguana starts incorporating his stuffed iguana, La Yesca, to an even bigger reaction. Aero Star and Dragon Lee go at it next and start fighting on the apron, as Aero Star knocks Lee down and hits him with a top rope tornado for a two. Iguana, Octagon & Aero all take turns diving to the outside before Aero goes to the top rope and tries a dive on Lee, who gets his knees up for a two-count. The LWO & Dorada all start taking turns on Aero, who tries to tag out to Iguana (extending La Yesca out). Iguana and Del Toro go at it, with Del Toro doing multiple rolls before getting a two count as Konnan says he hasn’t seen Del Toro wrestle like this in years. Iguana grabs La Yesca and starts using it, until Dorado starts attacking La Yesca, hitting a standing moonsault to get huge heat. This pisses Igauana off as he goes after Dorado. They start playing hot potato with La Yesca before Iguana gets hit with a triple superkick. Dorado & Octagon head to the top rope, where Dorado hits a wild hurricanrana before Aero takes him out with a springboard cutter. All six go at it next, including Del Toro running the ropes to hit a dropkick on Iguana. Del Toro takes out everybody with a twisting dive to the outside before Octagon & Dorado start trading strikes back inside. They head to the top rope as Octagon hits Dorado with a fall-away slam/moonsault to pick up the pin and the win.
Winners: Octagon Jr., Mr. Iguana & Aero Star by pinfall at 14:08
Dominik Mysterio Challenges Octagon Jr.
Dominik Mysterio gets on the mic after and tells the winners they might be Rey Mysterio fans, but he’s a deadbeat, while Dominik is a champion. Octagon Jr. gets in Dominik’s face, as Dominik shoves him off. Octagon pulls Dominik out of his seat and brings him into the ring as Dominik & Octagon start going at it until Iguana & Aero, as well as Liv Morgan, who enters, try to keep them apart. Dominik then tells Octagon that he’ll see him later on tonight at Money in the Bank and will put up his Intercontinental Championship.
They show another well-done video showing the history and culture of AAA. They put spotlights on Mascarita Sagrada and Latin Lover as they are both sitting ringside.
Chuey Martinez (from EVOLVE) is in the back with Legado del Fantasma, who talk about proving their legacy tonight. Santos Escobar shows a WWE patch, as they say that lucha libre with WWE can only be shown by Legado.
We see IYO SKY & Tiffany Stratton sitting in the crowd as we head to our next match.
Chik Tormenta & Dalys vs. Lola Vice & Stephanie Vaquer
Stephanie Vaquer tries the Devil’s Kiss early on, but Dalys powers out with Vaquer on her shoulders before tagging out to Chik Tormenta. Lola Vice enters and hits a 619 on Tormenta for a two-count. Vice & Tormenta start trading kicks before Dalys tags in and gets kicked to the other corner as Vice hits both Dalys & Tormenta with hip attacks. Vice gets distracted by Tormenta on the apron and gets sent to the outside by Dalys, as Tormenta takes out Vice with a big clothesline. Tormenta gets into Tiffany Stratton’s face at ringside. Back inside, Dalys hits Vice with a sit-out gourdbuster for a two. Dalys stays on top of Vice as we see Negro Casas, the husband of Dalys, in the crowd cheering on his wife. Vice tries to fight off both Dalys & Tormenta, before rolling out and making the hot tag to Vaquer, who enters with a top rope crossbody on Dalys. Vaquer takes out Dalys with a dragon screw in the corner before they start trading chops. Vaquer sets up Dalys for the Devil’s Kiss, as Vice does one at the same time to Tormenta. Vaquer finishes off Dalys with the SVB to pick up the pin and the win.
Winners: Stephanie Vaquer & Lola Vice by pinfall at 9:37
Vero Rodriguez (who is also the wife of Finn Balor) enters the ring to get some words from Vice & Vaquer. Vera asked Vaquer if she has enough energy for Money in the Bank later, as Vaquer states she will win it.
Chuey Martinez is in the back with Chad Gable and asks what he will do to become the next AAA Mega Champion. Gable says this is like a ‘second home’ to him, as the Mexican people love him. Gable talks about this being a big day as he will walk out as the AAA Mega Champion, while El Grande Americano will be Mr. Money in the Bank.
We see Chavo Guerrero & The Street Profits in the crowd.
Legado del Fantasma (Santos Escobar, Angel & Berto) vs. El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr., Pagano & Psycho Clown
A great video package before his match, where we hear from all six competitors, including Psycho Clown, talking about him being involved in the match where Santos Escobar lost his mask. Unfortunately, Clown doesn’t have his catchy theme music (All the AAA talent seemed to have generic themes instead). Berto & El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. start the match. Angel quickly tags in as he and Berto start double-teaming Wagner. Clown enters and takes out Berto & Angel with a double suplex to get a two-count on Angel. Clown hits a wild dive through the corner on Escobar before Pagano tags in with a springboard dropkick. Pagano sends Angel to the outside, where he tries a dive, but Escobar gets Berto out of the way as Pagano goes crashing on the outside. Konnan tells a story about Escobar being a young boy and being told to eat vegetables if he wants to be as big as his favorite wrestler, Konnan, at the time. Legado starts triple-teaming Pagano against the ropes with kicks as Berto gets a two-count on him. Pagano fights off Escobar and tags out to Clown, who meets Berto with a slam before setting his sights on Angel, placing him in a Tree of Woe where he hits him with a basement kick. Wagner enters and starts chopping away with Escobar, before Wagner, Clown & Pagano all take turns hitting dives to the outside on Legado. All six men start going at it before Wagner hits Escobar with a Falcon Arrow, but Angel is there to break up the count. Angel & Berto slam Wagner off the top rope, but Clown takes out Berto with a Psycho Driver on the apron, before Angel takes him out with a top rope moonsault. Pagano joins them with a top rope crossbody as Wagner leaps off the steel steps onto Escobar on the other side. Angel, Berto, Clown & Pagano go crashing through the barricade, as Escobar is solo in the ring as Wagner attacks him from behind. Wagner heads to the top rope, but Escobar joins him and takes him out with a hurricanrana for a two. Escobar stops Wagner and hits the Phantom Driver to pick up the pin and the win.
Winners: Legado del Fantasma (Santos Escobar, Angel & Berto) by pinfall at 14:58
We see a video package on the original 1994 When Worlds Collide with comments from Konnan & Latin Lover talking about its significance and the legacy it created.
Vero Rodriguez is in the back to get comments from El Hijo del Vikingo, who says he’s ready to defend his championship tonight.
We see Damian Priest, Savio Vega, and Blue Demon in the crowd.
WWE NXT North American Championship: Ethan Page (c) vs. Je’Von Evans vs. Laredo Kid vs. Rey Fenix
All four go at it at the start as they send Ethan Page to the outside where Laredo Kid teases diving onto him, but Page avoids it. Je’Von Evans and Rey Fenix have a bit of a face-off before Evans tries a roll-up for two. Fenix lands a very heavy chop that fires Evans up. Fenix continues with more chops before he jumps on the ropes to a great reaction from the crowd. Page enters to break this up, but Laredo quickly joins in. Page looks to be in control before Evans sends him to the outside. Fenix sends Evans to the outside next with a spider kick, before Fenix goes to the top rope just to be stopped by Laredo, who ends up hitting a top rope moonsault on Page & Evans. Fenix joins them after hitting a tornado, before landing a DDT to Page back inside for two. The crowd starts chanting for tables, as Konnan questions ‘Why would you want tables in a match like this.’ Laredo & Page end up on the top rope, where Page bodyslams Laredo onto Evans, before splashing on him for a two. Laredo stays on top of Fenix, hitting a Michinoku Driver and a twisting moonsault. Laredo heads to the top rope, but Evans stops him, puts him in the Tree of Woe, takes out Page with a German Suplex, sending him to the outside where Evans hits a wicked dive onto him, crashing into the Spanish announce table. With Laredo still in the Tree of Woe, Evans hits a top rope twisting kick from the other side before taking out Fenix with a springboard cutter, but Page is there to break it apart. Page takes out Laredo & Evans before going after Fenix, saying he is going to take off his mask. Fenix comes right back with the Goodbye Amigo kick on Page before him and Evans go at it, hitting a driver for a two-count. Evans bounces back in by taking out Page off the ropes, as Evans is the only one standing at the time. Fenix takes out Laredo with a top rope Spanish Fly, but Page is right there to hit the Ego’s Edge on Fenix, as Evans springboards back in to break it up. Evans takes out Laredo with a springboard cutter, but Page takes advantage, sending Evans to the outside and hitting a cutter on Laredo to pick up the pin and the win.
Winner: Ethan Page by pinfall at 14:54, to retain
We get another video, this one talking about the history of Triplemania as well as hyping up Triplemania 33 in August. They have been doing a very good job with these video packages for those not fully aware of everything AAA and lucha.
We see highlights of El Hijo del Vikingo winning the AAA Mega Championship last Saturday on AAA Alianzas, with words from Chad Gable and Vikingo hyping up the main event.
Gabriel Iglesias is seen sitting in the crowd.
AAA Mega Championship: El Hijo del Vikingo (c) vs. Chad Gable
Good presentation for the main event, as the crowd is split with Let’s Go Gable / Gable Sucks chants. They have a great opening sequence with submissions, throws, and pin attempts before El Hijo del Vikingo escapes from an ankle lock attempt. Vikingo puts on an upside-down armbar, but Chad Gable turns it into an ankle lock, which Vikingo quickly escapes. Vikingo traps Gable in the corner before hitting him with a top rope dropkick. Vikingo sends Gable flying against the ring ropes, where he lands a running Meteora, as they both go crashing to the outside. Vikingo goes to the top rope, walks the ropes, and hits an insane 630 Splash to Gable on the outside. Vikingo tries a running shooting star next on the outside, but Gable puts his knees up and sends Vikingo into the steel steps. Gable grabs a table that he sets up and tries to send Vikingo through with a German Suplex, but Vikingo escapes just to get taken out with a lariat from Gable. Gable stays in control back inside and hits a bridged German Suplex for two. Vikingo comes back by placing Gable on the top rope and hitting a loud chop, but as he tries another one, Gable traps in in an armbar, climbs the top rope, and tries a flying headbutt, just to get stopped by a Codebreaker from Vikingo. Vikingo traps Gable on the ropes, goes to the top rope, and hits a double stomp for a two-count. Vikingo kicks Gable down and hits a twisting 450 splash from outside the apron to the inside for two. Gable takes over the match, heads to the top rope, but misses the moonsault. Vikingo goes to the top rope, where Gable joins him and hits a top rope sitout powerbomb, which looked more like a piledriver. Insanity. Vikingo sends Gable onto the apron, where he climbs the turnbuckle post and takes out Gable with a Destroyer onto the apron. They head outside where Vikingo places Gable onto the table, climbs the top rope, but Gable gets out and pushes Vikingo off and puts him on the table himself. Gable goes to the top rope and crashes onto Vikingo and through the table with a moonsault. They both get in the ring just before the 10 count, where they start trading smacks, before Gable dodges one and puts on the ankle lock. Vikingo lands on his feet from a German Suplex attempt and hits a poison rana from off the corner. Vikingo follows with a meteora in the corner, heads to the top rope, and hits a 630 Splash to pick up the pin and the win.
Winner: El Hijo del Vikingo by pinfall at 21:59, to retain
The closing shot is Vikingo celebrating in the ring with stars from the show, plus some of the legends shown in the crowd.
