Trick Williams remains on top of TNA

Before we went to the Performance Center, we saw rapid-fire promos from all four women set to compete in the NXT Women’s Championship #1 contenders match tonight.

Title action opened tonight’s card, as Trick Williams put his TNA World Championship on the line against Josh Briggs.

For anyone who forgot, this match was made due to Yoshiki Inamura pinning Williams clean in a tag match last week. Since Inamura wants the NXT title instead of the TNA belt, he gave his title shot to tag partner Briggs. Inamura was in the corner of Briggs for this match.

This match was quite 50-50 early on. Briggs got a near fall early after coming off the ropes with a flying clothesline. Williams got a little too cocky during the opening minutes, getting in the face of Inamura while at ringside. This provided a distraction that allowed Briggs to wipe him out with a strike, putting him in control before the break.

Williams got back into the match during a commercial break by scoring a Trick Kick, which looked great. Briggs worked his way out of a submission as the show returned. Williams knocked Briggs down with a leg lariat, but Briggs started to get fired up after consuming the strike. Williams tried for another leg lariat, but Briggs caught it for a side slam.

Briggs put together numerous moves as part of a combination, hitting a standing frogsplash and a splash in the corner, but Williams got back into the match by suddenly coming off the turnbuckles with a knee strike (although he overshot Briggs somewhat).

A creative series of reversals between the two ended with a huge powerbomb from Briggs, although a follow-up pin attempt was broken by Williams getting a hand on the bottom rope.

Williams and Briggs traded strikes as they worked back up to their feet. Briggs dropped Williams with a front kick, but then ate a pair of kicks from Williams.

Williams attempted to run over to the ropes but was stopped by Briggs, who held his tights. Briggs pulled him back for a huge lariat.

Briggs went to the top for a moonsault, but Williams got out of the way. Williams was quick to follow up on this error from Briggs with a Trickshot running knee to earn the pinfall and retain the belt in 11 minutes.

Williams grabbed a mic for a post-match promo. He said it’s about time the crowd put respect on his name. As he was about to declare himself “The greatest TNA Champion of all time,” he was cut off by Joe Hendry’s music.

Williams set his sights on the stage, getting ready for a brawl. Hendry entered through the crowd, allowing him to jump Williams from behind. The #1 contender sent Williams running after a brief brawl.

Backstage, Tavion Heights confronted Charlie Dempsey about trying to injure him in training ahead of his match against Je’Von Evans tonight – he needed stitching for a cut on his upper lip. He noted that he has been given a mask to protect his face tonight and will still be able to compete.

Lexis King has hostile exchange with Myles Borne

George Gumbs Jr. and Tyreak Sapp of the Florida Gators NCAA football team were seen talking to Myles Borne. Lexis King approached Borne, insisting he wants to give him advice since he feels they’re similar. Borne initially tried to ignore King, but eventually responded.

“I don’t want your advice,” Borne said. “Me and you aren’t alike. While you’re taking every shortcut possible, I worked hard to get here. You know, Lexis? You are your father’s son, and that’ll never change.”

King started to talk about how the Gators are “losers.” He backed off after the two football players got in his face.

Tavion Heights remains in the NQCC following loss

Up next, Je’Von Evans faced off against Tavion Heights. As agreed upon last week, a win for Heights will allow him to leave the No Quarter Catch Crew.

Heights used his collegiate wrestling background to control Evans in the opening minute of the match, slamming him down and forcing him to escape roll-up pin attempts. Evans eventually found separation for his high-flying moves. He came off the ropes with a huge crossbody in the third minute of the match, then sent Heights out of the ring with a hurricanrana.

Evans went flying over the top with a dive as the bout went to a break. The wrestlers traded strikes as the show returned, then Heights set Evans flying with a hard lariat. Heights scored with a headbutt, using his mask on the back of Evans’ head, then landed a German suplex for a near fall.

Evans came off the ropes with a crafty head kick, then wiped Heights out with a thrust kick. Evans went off the top with a twisting splash to win in just under nine minutes. Heights isn’t leaving the NQCC yet, at least.

Evans’ celebration was cut short, as LFG winner Jasper Troy wiped him out in the middle of the ring. Troy walked past the NQCC, including a horrified Wren Sinclair, bringing the segment to an end.

Ricky Saints wins in return, gets jumped by long-time rival

Ricky Saints made his in-ring return next, going up against Ashante Thee Adonis. This matchup was set up during a backstage segment last week. Saints was out of the ring for a month after his North American Championship match against Ethan Page, whom he stated last week he hopes to meet again in the future.

Saints hit a Last Ride onto Adonis, then tossed him to the outside before a break just a minute into this match. Ashante got hold of the match during commercials as the pace of the fight slowed. He stayed ahead as the show returned, scoring a DDT and then a Cash-Out (Attitude Adjustment) for a two-count.

Adonis threw Saints into the turnbuckles until Saints eventually reversed one of the Irish Whips, sending Adonis into the corner instead. This kicked off a comeback from Saints, putting together a combination of moves ending with a tornado DDT for a two-count.

Saints came off the ropes with a spear, then hit his Rochambeau finisher to win in just under eight minutes. Saints is back and hasn’t lost a step. While in the ring, a familiar face appeared on the titantron: Ethan Page.

A promo from Page was cut off after just a couple of seconds. Technical difficulties? Nope, all part of the plan. Page appeared from the crowd to attack Saints, then hit his own Rochambeau. Page lifted his North American Championship over a hurt Saints as the match came to a close.

A pre-recorded promo from Darkstate teased that they’ll strike once again soon.

Yoshiki Inamura calls for title shot… But Jasper Troy has something to say about that

NXT Champion Oba Femi came to the ring for a promo.

Femi talked about how successful his reign has been. As it stands currently, Femi has the 11th-longest title reign out of all past NXT men’s world champs.

Wanting a new challenger, Femi put out an open challenge. Who answered the call? Yoshiki Inamura, who turned down a TNA title fight last week due to his hopes of instead becoming an NXT champ.

Inamura talked about how when he briefly left America and returned to Japan, he missed NXT. He said that he hopes he can pay the fans back for what they have done for him by winning the NXT title.

“I want bigger. And you, the title, are bigger,” Inamura said.

Femi gave credit to Inamura, but warned him that he will “fall just like everybody else” when they face off for the title. His microphone glitched out as he said this. “I am ready,” Inamura replied.

As Inamura was on his way to the back, he got wiped out by Jasper Troy, who completely ran him over. Troy then hopped onto the ring apron and faced off with Femi. It looks like there’s more than one contender who’s willing to face Femi next.

Backstage, Izzi Dame gave Tatum Paxley a new doll. She then asked Paxley if she could corner her during tonight’s four-way. Sol Ruca came up to them: “Izzi, you cannot be serious right now.” Zaria was less sympathetic, saying if Paxley wants to fall for Dame’s easy pandering, then let her. Dame made fun of Zaria for her loss last week, then reiterated her offer to Paxley to be at ringside.

Dame introduced Paxley to the rest of The Culling. Paxley then said she’ll be at ringside for Dame tonight. When Niko Vance and Shawn Spears were asked if they’ll be at ringside, Vance said they have “something in the works.” “We, too, have our eyes on some gold,” Spears said.

Intentional or not, Luca Crusifino helps Channing Lorenzo earn Heritage Cup

Wes Lee approached Trick Williams, who was frustrated after getting jumped by Joe Hendry earlier. Lee came with some good news: He’s going to face Hendry on next week’s NXT. Williams said he’ll owe them a favor if they can hurt Hendry ahead of their Slammiversary title fight.

The next matchup was a rematch from Battleground, with Channing Lorenzo and Tony D’Angelo facing off. This was originally scheduled to be a Heritage Cup match between Lorenzo and Noam Dar, but plans changed after an injured Dar was pulled from the card and vacated his title.

Instead, it’s now Lorenzo and D’Angelo meeting for the vacant Heritage Cup. This match expectedly followed the Cup’s ruleset of three-minute rounds, which was briefly abandoned during the reign of Lexis King. Lorenzo had a few white-shirted goons in his corner, and D’Angelo started with nobody by his side.

The first round of the match came to an end without either wrestler scoring a fall. The two continued to fight briefly after the bell, allowing D’Angelo to score a cheap shot. Lorenzo took a huge bump early in the second round, getting sent from the ring apron to the commentary desk. D’Angelo then brought Lorenzo into the ring for a spear, earning him a pinfall just moments into the second round.

D’Angelo continued to have control during the third round, which started during commercials. D’Angelo threw Lorenzo under the bottom rope, making him fall flat onto the ringside mat. He tossed Lorenzo out on the other side of the ring, near the heel’s ringside squad. After throwing Lorenzo back into the ring, a leg of D’Angelo’s was taken out by a Lorenzo ally at ringside, and of course this happened while the referee wasn’t looking.

Lorenzo scored a curbstomp in the closing moments of the round, but wasn’t able to score a fall before time ran out. D’Angelo, who was selling his left knee significantly, was kicked in the leg once in between rounds.

D’Angelo tried lifting Lorenzo up for a move early in the next round, but his left knee gave out. This allowed Lorenzo to put together a roll-up pin, tying things up at 1-1.

Luca Crusifino appeared at ringside in between rounds in the corner of D’Angelo. A comeback was mounted early in the next round by D’Angelo, hitting a spinebuster and then throwing Lorenzo over the top and to the outside, taking out his helpers. One of the goons tried to hit Crusifino with a metal bucket, but he caught it. During a struggle between the two, Crusifino lost grip of the bucket, hitting D’Angelo in the back while he stood on the ring apron.

This allowed Lorenzo to suplex D’Angelo back into the ring, then hit a running knee strike to the back of the head to score a pinfall and win 2-1. Lorenzo is the new Heritage Cup Champion, marking his first-ever singles title run.

Crusifino tried helping D’Angelo up after the match. A frustrated D’Angelo, who clearly still doesn’t trust Crusifino, knocked him down with a punch and then stormed out of the ring.

Toxic Attraction, who spoiled the NXT contract signing of Blake Monroe last week, were interviewed backstage. The trio said they let Monroe know about her position on the roster. Jayne was asked about tonight’s #1 contenders match, which will determine who will face her at Evolution. She said no matter who wins the #1 contenders match tonight, that winner won’t get their hand raised in Atlanta.

Ava isn’t happy with Ethan Page

Backstage, Thea Hail expressed frustration about her loss last week against Jaida Parker, where the referee didn’t see her tap-out victory. Lainey Red entered the frame, telling Hail that she knows how to get “played like a fiddle.”

Lash Legend told Hail and Red that if they have issues, they need to settle them later because they should watch her win the fatal-four way first.

An angry Ava approached Ethan Page, asking why he attacked Ricky Saints. Ava said that both Saints and Page will be in her office next week. Page said the meeting would have to be on his terms, then started to draft a text to the Vanity Project. Ava stormed away after hearing a loud noise.

Ava ran into another room, where she saw Hank and Tank laid out due to an attack. It’s unclear who got to them.

Joe Hendry was interviewed. He mentioned his upcoming Slammiversary match against Trick Williams, then hyped up his match next week against Wes Lee.

A Chase University clip showed Andre Chase reiterating his harsh words from last week. “Y’all need to toughen the f*** up.” Just like last week, Kale Dixon and Uriah Connors weren’t having it. They left the classroom, claiming Chase’s attitude is what caused the university to close down before. Chase started getting flashbacks to the first time the university shut down as the segment came to an end.

They gave a quick rundown of next week’s NXT:

  • Yoshiki Inamura vs. Jasper Troy (NXT Championship #1 Contenders Match)
  • Myles Borne vs. Lexis King
  • Joe Hendry vs. Wes Lee

Jordynne Grace punches ticket to Evolution

The main event of the night saw Jordynne Grace, Izzi Dame, Lash Legend, and Jaida Parker face off in a fatal-four way, with the winner going on to face Jacy Jayne for the NXT Women’s Chapionship at WWE Evolution.

The match worked at an incredibly fast pace early on, with the wrestlers taking turns having control of the ring.

Tatum Paxley was the only person at ringside early in this match, potentially offering Dame an advantage. That was, until Sol Ruca and Zaria appeared on the stage to pick Paxley up and carry her away.

Legend had an impressive moment during the commercials, lifting up both Grace and Dame for her move where she bumps an opponent’s head into the middle and top ropes.

Parker hit a Tear Drop on both Dame and Grace as the show returned. Legend got into the ring and was lifted by Parker, who scored a back bodydrop. She picked up Grace, but a front kick from Dame sent them both falling to the mat.

Legend got back into the match. She used Parker as a weapon on Dame, then tossed Dame down onto the mat for a near fall.

Parker took out Legend with a backstabber, then climbed to the top rope, where Grace was seated. Legend lifted Parker up off the top. Parker tried for a sunset flip powerbomb from Legend’s shoulders, but Legend was able to stop the final part of the move. This allowed Grace to come off the top with a crossbody onto Legend. Parker tried for a pin after Grace’s crossbody, but Dame broke up the attempt.

All four women climbed to the same top turnbuckle, setting up a multi-person superplex spot from Grace. This received a huge reaction. She tried to pin numerous opponents after the move, but couldn’t finish the match with any of the attempts.

Grace tried for a Vader Bomb out of the corner, but Parker avoided it, allowing her to come off the ropes with a Hipnotic. Grace was knocked out of the ring by the move. Once Parker turned around, she was met with a Codebreaker off the top from Dame.

Legend gave Grace a pump kick, then knocked Dame out of the ring with a right hand. Legend tried for a pin after scoring her finisher, but Grace broke it up, coming over the ropes and stomping onto the top of Legend’s back during the pinfall attempt.

A big boot to the jaw of Legend from Grace sent her out of the ring. Grace then scored a torture rack bomb onto Parker to win the match in just under 13 minutes.

Grace will challenge NXT Women’s Champion Jacy Jayne at Evolution next month. Jayne, who was watching the match from ringside, stared down Grace as the show went off air.
