NXT featured title matches confirmed for Gold Rush, including Joe Hendry choosing a partner to go for the AAA Mixed Tag Team Championship.

The show ended with Ethan Page and Chelsea Green hosting a “Muy Grande Championship Celebration” after they won the Mixed Tag Team Titles from La Hiedra & Mr. Iguana this past weekend in Mexico.

The new champions appeared with Alba Fyre with a giant cake inside the ring and surrounded by Canadian flags, stating they were hated in the locker room because of where they were from. It resulted in a tease of Joe Hendry appearing, with the belief he was inside the cake, but he walked out from the back.

Hendry was asked if he wanted a shot at Page’s North American Championship, but instead, he wanted to challenge for the Mixed Tag Titles. He revealed his partner to be Thea Hail, who popped out of the cake, ending with Page and Green getting cake thrown into their faces and the challengers doing the wave.

The match will occur at one of the two episodes of Gold Rush on November 18 or 25 at the Theatre at Madison Square Garden.

Kelani Jordan – Call Her ‘Champion’

Jordan cut, arguably, the best promo of her career as a full-fledged heel after using the championship belt on Jordynne Grace to win her match last week. Jordan said she would do whatever it took to hold onto her title, called the fans “hypocrites” for cheering when Dominik Mysterio cheats or when Cody Rhodes used a belt shot to get disqualified against Drew McIntyre, but they booed her. She won the Knockouts title and wanted to add prestige to the belt, and the locker room viewed her as a “traitor” even though Lola Vice wrestles for AAA every week, while she’s been a standout ever since her tryout in Nashville three years ago.

She called the fans “followers,” and it’s time for her to become selfish and would not defend the title at Gold Rush because no one is worthy. Later in the show, Santino Marella put her into a triple threat match at Gold Rush with Grace and Lei Ying Lee.

Jordan was excellent in this segment, and I thought she knocked this promo out of the park and seamlessly transitioned to this heel version of herself.

Zaria Advances in Speed Title Tournament

The four-woman tournament for the vacant title began with Zaria defeating Wren Sinclair after a spear and F-5 to advance to the final.

They played off Zaria’s shoulder injury, sustained at Halloween Havoc, with Sinclair applying multiple submissions to the injured arm.

Fallon Henley faces LFG season two winner Skylar Raye next week, and the final will occur at Gold Rush.

Sol Ruca Awaits Clearances, Possible Title Rematch

Sol Ruca has made a magical recovery and wants a title rematch with Blake Monroe at Gold Rush. Ava will not grant her the match until she is “cleared,” but it seems they are definitely heading in this direction as they pushed it heavily.

So, let’s get this straight that Sol Ruca announced her “injury” on October 21, and vacated her belts because she had a defense against Monroe at Halloween Havoc, which Zaria substituted for Ruca, and lost. A tournament has been created for the Ruca’s vacated Speed Championship, and Ruca will likely wrestle on the Gold Rus,h where the finals of the tournament for her vacated title take place.

Does any of this make sense?

Ricky Saints and Trick Williams Brawl Before Last Man Standing

The two had a split-screen interview, which devolved into a brawl when they found each other backstage. Williams got the better of Saints after using a pipe.

Both had good promos during the interview segment to promote next week’s Last Man Standing match at the Performance Center. They had a fairly disappointing match at Halloween Havoc, so hopefully, this is an upgrade, and given WWE’s history with last man standing matches, I expect this to be much better received with all the added elements at their disposal.

Final Thoughts

NXT has a lot of big shows coming up over the next month, with the two-week Gold Rush special taking precedence above everything, followed next month. Tonight was a bit of a holding pattern with a lot of matches to build over the coming weeks.

The wrestling displayed was adequate, and the best match of the show was reserved for Je’Von Evans and Saquon Shugars, with the latter having some struggles, but Evans was on fire. They tried to protect Shugars with lots of involvement by DarkState before multiple OG Cutters and a beautiful Tornillo off the top by Evans for the pin. Shugars has a tremendous amount of charisma, especially among the DarkState counterparts.

Tyra Mae Steele was thrown into a match with Kelani Jordan after a backstage interaction. Jordan took almost the entire match, and they limited Steele’s offense to a very small portion, which included some variation on an Angle Slam, but the rest was all Jordan, and she hit the One-of-a-Kind split-legged moonsault to win clean. It was surprising they put Jordan over Steele so strongly, as the Olympic medalist hasn’t been used much since she did the mixed tag with Tavion Heights against Ethan Page & Chelsea Green and saw the Heatwave crowd in Massachusetts back the Canadians.
