The latest – 9:40 p.m. ET: Omos goes back-to-back with the Copa Bardahl
The second night of this year’s AAA TripleMania festivities took place live from Arena CDMX in Mexico City, Mexico. Two nights after a Las Vegas card that did little more than set the table for a bigger show, tonight’s lineup looked to have many more high-stakes matchups, including the top men’s and women’s titles on the line.
The first match of the night was AAA’s annual Copa Bardahl match. For the uninitiated, the Copa Bardahl (Bardahl is a petroleum company which sponsors AAA) is a yearly Royal Rumble-style match. In fact, it’s arguably a little more similar to NJPW’s Wrestle Kingdom Ranbo, as eliminations can come via pinfall or submission, as well as through the traditional over-the-top rope form. What does the winner of the Copa get? Bragging rights, and… Well, actually, that’s it. A yearly supply of Bardahl products would’ve maybe been a nice touch.
Mr. Iguana got a strong pop as entrant #1 and battled with Abismo Negro to get this one started. Abismo Negro Jr.’s tag partner Histeria appeared next. Mascarita Sagrada followed, then The Beast Mortos- wait, no sorry- Taurus, got into the match.
El Fiscal came in and eliminated rival Abismo Negro Jr. Despite being out of the match, Abismo Negro Jr. got back into the ring and tossed Fiscal over the top rope to eliminate him as well. They brawled to the back.
When Mecha Wolf hit the ring, JBL plugged that he competed in another TKO brand, Power Slap, earlier this year (no mention of that win getting overturned after he failed a drug test). A big pop occurred when La Parka showed up.
AAA vet El Mesias, who has been working dates for the promotion recently but not making TV appearances, also got a big reaction from the crowd. El Mesias had a back-and-forth with El Texano, battling one decade after they faced off for the Mega Championship.
Omos, two days off his big win over Rey Mysterio, entered next with the hope of winning the Copa two years in a row. Omos went on a run of eliminating a large share of the match’s competitors.
Nino Hamburguesa was the final entrant, marking his return to AAA after months out of the company. Hamburguesa was cut from the brand in early 2026 after a video showed him physically getting into it with an attendee at a local event. Fast-forward six months later, AAA has seemingly forgiven the fan favorite, giving him a return in a big spot.
Omos got on the ring apron late thanks to Mascarita Sagrada, but was able to recover and then eliminate Hamburguesa to win the match in 22 minutes. This was a tighter Copa Bardahl than many years before (last year’s was 26 minutes; it has gone 30 minutes and deeper before). There were some fun little fanfare spots early on, but the result of Omos winning for the second year in a row felt a little lame. I’m not sure they know what to do with him, much like how they have felt for most of his time in the company, now that his feud with Rey Mysterio has wrapped.
