AEW recently completed its Canada events and is set to return to Wembley Stadium on Aug. 30, but Tony Khan remains interested in other global stops.
Company president Tony Khan was on the “Battleground Podcast,” where he was asked if there was a place AEW hasn’t been at that he’d like to run an event.
We’ve had some awesome events in England. We’ve traveled to England, and anytime we go back there, I absolutely love doing that. There are a lot of great cities in Mexico that we have not been to yet. We’ve been to Mexico City, but I think there are more opportunities. Guadalajara is a great town, and there are other cities in America, after all these years, places where maybe we’ve done a TV, but we haven’t had a pay-per-view yet. There are so many great cities that I’d love to go to.
I mentioned Guadalajara. I think that’s one good opportunity for us. That could be an awesome place to visit. There are a lot of big international cities. There’s never been an AEW in France, Italy, Germany. These are great markets for pro wrestling and where there’s lots of AEW fans.
AEW ran Grand Slam Mexico in partnership with CMLL in Arena México last year, and Khan has confirmed that AEW will return to the country this year. Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer reported that this year’s Grand Slam Mexico could run “later in the year than June.”
CMLL is a Mexico City-based promotion known for its Friday night shows at Arena México. However, it does run shows in Arena Coliseo Guadalajara on Tuesday nights.
In past interviews, Khan has mentioned France and Germany as potential locations in Europe for AEW events.
