Penta successfully defended the WWE Intercontinental Championship against Ethan Page at Saturday Night’s Main Event.
Early in the contest, the action spilled to the outside where Page executed a back body drop that sent Penta crashing onto the announce desk. Rather than accept a count-out victory, which would not have won him the title, Page returned Penta to the ring to continue the punishment.
Penta mounted a comeback with a tope con hilo to the outside and a springboard DDT, but neither maneuver was enough to end the match.
The two men traded near-falls down the stretch. Page executed a Confidence Breaker, while Penta connected with a Penta Driver. Page later delivered an avalanche powerslam from the top rope, but the champion kicked out again, leading to Page’s desperation with the turnbuckles.
The closing sequence of the match involved Page removing two turnbuckle pads. While referee Eddie Orengo was replacing the first pad, Page removed a second one and drove Penta into the exposed steel. This only yielded a two-count.
Penta then capitalized on a mistake, dodging Page to send him into the exposed turnbuckle. The champion immediately followed up with a springboard Mexican Destroyer to secure the pinfall victory.
