The first wave of names has been confirmed for this summer’s G1.
14 names were announced for the NJPW G1 Climax 36 on Sunday night as part of the Dominion 6.14 broadcast from Osaka.
Seven names for both the A and B Blocks were confirmed on Sunday, with the final six tournament spots being revealed in the coming weeks.
The A Block will feature Konosuke Takeshita, Yota Tsuji, SANADA, Shingo Takagi, Jake Lee, Boltin Oleg, and Hirooki Goto.
On the B Block side, the action will include Callum Newman, Zack Sabre Jr., Shota Umino, Yuya Uemura, Ren Narita, Drilla Moloney, and Gabe Kidd. The tour is notably a return for AEW star Kidd, who has been on the injured list since suffering a setback at the promotion’s Dynasty pay-per-view in April.
Two more spots will be determined on this evening’s Dominion card, NJPW announced. The winners of an IWGP Tag Team Championship bout between the Knockout Brothers and the United Empire duo of HENARE and Great-O-Khan would both be given spots in the tournament, NJPW revealed.
After that, the final four spots in the tournament will be given to winners of a play-in tournament.
This year’s G1 Climax begins on July 11 with a card in Chicago, Illinois. The tournament then returns to Japan a week later, where it will continue until August 16.
