The crowd fully supported Boltin, who went over 20 minutes in the G1 for the first time. Boltin used his power throughout to dominate the champion, but Tsuji worked the midsection to slow down Boltin and to set up the Gene Blaster. The big moment came during a fight on the apron, and Tsuji hit a Gene Blaster, sending Boltin to the outside. He beat out the 20-count and had to use the referee to carry himself up. The last stretch of the match featured Tsuji continuing to put the pressure on Boltin and putting up counter after counter to Boltin’s Kamikaze and powerbomb attempts. There were multiple nearfalls after Tsuji hit a Gene Blaster and after Boltin hit the Kamikaze and The Verdict. There also was a moment where Boltin fired up at Tsuji, stopping a Gene Blaster. He lifted Tsuji multiple times for powerbombs, and he went for a Kamikaze, but Tsuji held onto the ropes. Boltin went to the second rope and hit a second-rope Kamikaze for the win.
Takagi was 0-2 against Takeshita heading into the match and earned his first win after a fast-paced, hard-hitting bout. Early in the match, Takagi sent Takeshita into the corner post, and his cheekbone was swelling throughout the match. Both men brought their big moves, with Takagi hitting a modified Tiger Driver on the apron. Takagi and Takeshita matched each other move for move, trading poisonranas, each other’s signature moves and one-count nearfalls. Takagi outlasted Takeshita and hit the Last of the Dragon for the win.
Goto was eliminated for his loss Thursday, and he showed the desperation to not get eliminated. Oiwa continued to work the side headlock and continued to use Goto’s momentum to catch him back in the side headlock, which Goto eventually tapped to.
The Lee-O-Khan match mercifully was short. GOK tried to catch Lee by surprise with a chair shot before the match. GOK thought he had a low blow on Lee, but Lee later revealed he was wearing a cup. Lee pulled off the Eddie Guerrero spot, pretending GOK hit him with a chair, which forced a DQ finish, and GOK was eliminated. GOK attacked Lee after the match, and Austin Young came out to prevent a ConChairTo attempt. Lee followed GOK to the back to make amends.
Yuto-Ice’s first match he ever saw was Seiya Sanada and Manabu Soya against Big Daddy Voodoo and TARU at a 2010 AJPW show. Sanada, who came out in a gold disco outfit, showed he was wearing his gold gear from that match, which fired up Yuto-Ice to start the match. After a ref bump, Kanemaru came out for the whiskey shot and rolled in a guitar, which SANADA obliged and nailed Yuto-Ice with a guitar shot over the head. SANADA went down, forcing a 10-count, which SANADA beat with a kip-up and earned a knockout win.
Boltin and Takeshita are tied for the A Block lead with 10 points. There is a three-way tie for second between Tsuji, Takagi and Oiwa at eight points. SANADA, Yuto-Ice and Lee are still alive with six points.
The opening of the show also featured a ceremony and 10-bell salute to Dory Funk Jr., who died at 85 years old this week.
G1 Climax 36 continues in Kanagawa at Yokohama Budokan on Saturday with OSKAR versus Callum Newman in the main event. A Block action continues Sunday at Gunma with Shingo Takagi and Yuto-Ice in the main event.
