Fred Rosser, formerly known as Darren Young in WWE, has returned to the company in a coaching role with NXT.
Rosser posted from the WWE Performance Center in Orlando on Saturday, saying he was grateful for the opportunity to work with the next generation of talent.
Today, I’m back at NXT, fighting back tears of joy every time I pull up to the Performance Center and grateful for the opportunity to give back to the next generation.
Rosser said the role also gives him an opportunity to learn what WWE currently looks for in its talent and described himself as being able to “be a sponge” in the environment.
He added that he had trained in the company’s developmental system before reaching WWE’s main roster and was now able to pass on the benefit of those experiences.
Rosser referred to his own history with the original version of NXT, where he competed during the show’s inaugural season in 2010. He later became an original member of The Nexus alongside Wade Barrett, David Otunga, Heath Slater, Justin Gabriel and others following the group’s memorable Raw debut.
After leaving The Nexus, Rosser became best known in WWE as one half of The Prime Time Players with Titus O’Neil. The pair won the WWE Tag Team Championship from The New Day at Money in the Bank in June 2015.
WWE announced his release on October 29, 2017, alongside Emma and Summer Rae. Rosser referred to the departure in Saturday’s post as having taken place nine years ago.
He subsequently established himself with New Japan Pro-Wrestling, becoming the second STRONG Openweight Champion in 2022 by defeating Tom Lawlor. Rosser held the championship until losing it to KENTA at Battle in the Valley in February 2023.
Rosser has continued wrestling in recent years, including a match against David Finlay at NJPW’s New Beginning USA in February this year.
