With the Crown Comes a Target

Raw from New Mexico kicked off with new World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk cutting an in-ring promo, thanking AJ Lee, the WWE fans, and Jey Uso for getting him to where he is now. Punk then twirled his title around his head before wishing Seth Rollins a speedy recovery.

Punk said he looks forward to punching Bronson Reed, Bron Breakker, and Paul Heyman in the face. He then named other potential opponents in AJ Styles, Dominik Mysterio, JD McDonagh, Finn Balor, Sheamus, and John Cena. With that, Logan Paul returned, and Punk nearly had a conniption, saying, “anybody but you.” The Vision then appeared with Paul Heyman, pointing out that Bronson Reed and Bron Breakker are actually at the front of the line. Breakker got on the mic and said that he wasn’t waiting any longer. Punk suggested Paul fight with him, but instead, Paul took a powder and got shoved down by The Brons. Punk was getting beaten down when Logan Paul decided to help. Paul got hit with Reed’s Tsunami when Punk returned with a chair and fought The Vision off.

Vaquer & Bella vs. Perez & Rodriguez

The first match of the evening saw World Champion Stephanie Vaquer teaming with her “good friend” Nikki Bella to take on Judgment Day’s Roxanne Perez and Raquel Rodriguez. As the match began, Wade Barrett almost called her Raquel Gonzalez before catching himself and saying that he had nearly gone back to the past. The heels got the heat on Bella in the early portion of this match until she got the hot tag to Vaquer. Vaquer attempted to hit the SVB on Rodriguez, but couldn’t pick her up. Bella then hit the Rack Attack 2.0 on Perez, but Rodriguez broke up the cover. Vaquer then failed to hit the Devil’s Kiss on Rodriguez, and then Perez hit Pop Rox on Bella for the win. This is the second week in a row that Perez has pinned Bella.

Backstage, they busted out the old Royal Rumble tumbler to randomly select combatants in John Cena’s final match tournament. Adam Pearce made the first two selections and walked off.

CM Punk ran into Jey Uso backstage, and he said his heart was telling him to help him. Punk wondered if he could trust him, and Jey noted that if he were the champion, they’d be coming after him. The two fist-bumped, and it seemed they were ready to team against The Vision later tonight.

Penta vs. El Grande Americano

Next up was Penta taking on El Grande Americano. Both competitors went back and forth, with the crowd firmly behind Penta. Penta hit a dive onto Americano on the outside and then was tripped up by Bravo Americano, who was ejected. This allowed Rio to hand off the metal plate that Grande put into his mask. Rio was then ejected for grabbing Penta’s leg on the other side of the ring. Grande went for a flying headbutt, but Penta caught him with a superkick, following that up with the Mexican Destroyer for the win.

A Kabuki Warriors promo package aired, with them touting how their attack on Charlotte and Alexa Bliss was just a taste of what was to come last week. They also addressed Bayley, saying they hadn’t forgotten about her.

The Mysterios

Next up, Dominik Mysterio cut an in-ring promo saying that no one could stop him. This brought out the returning Rey Mysterio. The announcers noted that Rey had come to nearby Albuquerque to see if he was medically cleared to compete. Rey said that he had to draw the line when Dom calls himself “The King of the Luchadores” because it insults their family. He asked if Dom thought he was better than Eddie Guerrero, and Dom said to keep his father’s name out of his mouth. Rey said as long as he was around, Dom would never be the greatest Mysterio. With that, a brawl ensued with Rey hitting the 619 before Dom could escape.

Backstage, Lyra Valkyria asked Bayley why she was the only one who had not been attacked last week. Bayley said that Lyra could trust her and they should focus on their match against The Kabuki Warriors tonight.

Back at ringside, Wade and Joe were discussing the situation with Bayley and Lyra when Becky Lynch appeared, jumping onto the announce desk. Becky said she’s been going through a lot between her injured husband, The Vision losing their “GD minds”, and a crooked referee that had it out for her. Lynch continued, “The only thing cool to come out of New Mexico is a show about how much Meth you people do,” which made Wade Barrett guffaw before moving the mic away from his mouth. Finally, she addressed Maxxine Dupri, saying that the next time she steps into the ring with her, it’ll be her last. On Becky’s way to the back, she ran into the Kabuki Warriors coming out for their match, and the three had a staredown in the aisleway.

Kabuki Warriors vs. Bayley & Lyra

The next match saw Asuka and Kairi Sane taking on Bayley and Lyra Valkyria. The two teams battled back and forth with Asuka hitting a German Suplex on Lyra Valkyria on the outside as the show went to an ad break. Upon return, Bayley got the hot tag and took control, beating down Asuka. Bayley hit the Bayley to Belly on Sane, but only for a two count. The action continued with both teams scoring near falls until Lyra was caught in the Asuka Lock and had to tap with Bayley on the floor. After the match, Charlotte and Alexa ran down to chase the heels off.

Backstage, Judgment Day was celebrating as Raquel Rodriguez was getting a title shot against Stephanie Vaquer next week. Dominik entered, freaking out about Rey’s return, and Finn said they would have been out there to help him if they were invited to his celebration. Balor then handed Sheamus’ Shillelagh, and he and JD left for their tag title match. Roxanne then convinced Dom to corner Balor and McDonagh.

World Tag Team Championship

The next match was AJ Styles and Dragon Lee defending their tag team championships against Judgment Day’s Finn Balor and JD McDonagh. Despite Roxanne convincing him in the prior segment, Dominik was not ringside when the match began. During the first ad break, he marched down the aisle carrying the Shillelagh. The match continued with both teams exchanging near falls. Styles then hit a sliding dropkick, taking out Dom, who promptly jumped up on the apron, distracting the referee. The ref missed a pinfall attempt, and Balor accidentally hit McDonagh with the Coup de Grace. Styles then hit the Phenomenal Forearm, but Balor made the save. Balor then asked Dom to hit AJ with his title belt, but Sheamus appeared and took him out. Judgment Day used the Shillelagh, but Dragon Lee made the save before the three-count. Styles finally caught McDonagh with the Styles Clash for the win.

Backstage, Nikki Bella apologized to Stephanie Vaquer for losing the match and allowing Raquel Rodriguez to get a title shot. Nikki said she was rusty and wondered why she was even there. Vaquer gave her a pep talk, and Nikki thanked her.

Elsewhere backstage, Paul Heyman approached Jey Uso and said he couldn’t figure out why Jey would team with the man who beat him two nights ago. Heyman said the leashes on The Brons were off, and anyone not conforming with The Vision was getting their asses handed to them. Paul said Jey had a vision all his own, and he liked it.

The Last Time is Now Tournament Draw

The first two matches were announced for the John Cena tournament, taking place next week in Boston:

Rusev vs. Damian Priest

Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Sheamus

Punk & Jey Uso vs. The Brons

The main event of the evening (with the bell ringing at 10:29 pm) saw CM Punk teaming with Jey Uso to take on Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed. Punk and Jey started things out on the same page, utilizing teamwork to take The Brons out as the show went to break. Upon return, the Brons were getting the heat on Punk and stopping his attempts at tagging in Uso, including hitting him with a Shatter Machine (although Barrett called it a Flatliner Lungblower). Finally, Uso was tagged in and took it to the heel team, hitting Reed with a Spear, only to have Breakker make the save. All four men continued brawling on the outside, and both teams were counted out.

The fight continued anyway, with Breakker hitting his “Super Spear” on Jey and Punk being thrown into the timekeeper’s area. Back in the ring, Breakker speared Jey again, and Reed followed it up with a Tsunami. Punk finally returned with a chair, chasing the heels off, just like he had in the opening segment. Reed and Breakker grabbed chairs for themselves when Logan Paul returned with his brass knuckles, standing next to Punk. Paul then knocked Punk out with the brass knuckles and handed them to Paul Heyman as the show ended.
