Chelsea Green’s first-ever world title run is underway.

Underdog Green won a five-way ladder match as part of Summerslam Night 2 to capture the interim WWE Women’s Championship on Sunday night. She won in a match also featuring Tiffany Stratton, Charlotte Flair, Jade Cargill, and Lash Legend.

Late in the match, Green took out opponent Stratton, tipping over a ladder which she was on top of. Stratton delivered a Swanton Bomb on the way down, hitting numerous opponents at ringside.

Just as Green was about to grab the belt and win, she was stopped by Cargill allies B-Fab and Michin, who came down to ringside. While they delayed her ascent, Green had another chance to earn the gold after rivals Flair and Cargill took eachother out in the ring. With everybody down and out, Cargill grabbed the vacant title.

While Green has become a fixture in Smackdown’s midcard picture, going on two runs with the Women’s United States Championship, she hadn’t carried a world title prior to this weekend.

The move to crown an interim champion was made last month due to main titleholder Rhea Ripley being on the sidelines due to injury. While Ripley’s return date isn’t known at the moment, it’s expected that she’ll unify the titles with Green sometime down the line.

All five women in Sunday’s ladder match were determined through qualifying matches in recent weeks.
