WRESTLING NEWS

**AEW and WWE had first-day sellouts today for shows this fall. After pre-sales for both shows, Dynamite in Toronto on October 12th and Survivor Series on November 26th in Boston sold out on the day of their first public on-sales. AEW is running the Coca-Cola Coliseum for Dynamite on October 12th and will tape Rampage the following night in the same arena with both nights set up for 8,000 people, according to an AEW official that confirmed the first-night sellout to us. Tickets for Rampage the following night are still available as of this writing. For WWE, WrestleTix reported an immediate sellout on Friday after its own pre-sales for the show at the TD Garden.

**WWE is holding a double taping of Friday Night SmackDown at Little Caesar’s Arena tonight in Detroit, Michigan. This is due to the crew heading to Cardiff next weekend for Clash at the Castle and necessitating a taped edition of SmackDown next week. For tonight’s show on Fox, they have announced:
*Drew McIntyre vs. Sami Zayn
*Second Chance Fatal 4-Way: Natalya & Sonya Deville vs. Xia Li & Shotzi vs. Dana Brooke & Tamina vs. Nikki A.S.H. & Doudrop
*Semi-Finals of Women’s Tag Title Tournament: Raquel Rodriguez & Aliyah vs. TBA
*Ricochet vs. Happy Corbin
*The return of Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods

**WrestleTix noted a big jump in ticket sales for Detroit over the past day with almost 9,400 tickets out for tonight’s tapings.

**Mike Johnson at PWinsider.com reports that Bayley, Dakota Kai, IYO SKY & The Street Profits are in Detroit where SmackDown takes place tonight. Fightful adds that JBL is also expected to be used.

**AEW Rampage is using the fallout from CM Punk’s loss on Dynamite as the hook for tonight’s episode with post-match footage of Punk airing tonight. Below are the matches and segments for the show at 10 p.m. ET on TNT:
*ROH Championship: Claudio Castagnoli (champion) vs. Dustin Rhodes
*AAA Mixed Tag Titles: Sammy Guevara & Tay Melo vs. Ruby Soho & Ortiz
*TNT Championship: Wardlow (champion) vs. Ryan Nemeth
*Powerhouse Hobbs vs. Ashton Day
*Trios Tournament: Dark Order vs. House of Black
*Hook to appear

**Eddie Kingston continued to comment on the recent issue involving Sammy Guevara that led to AEW suspending Kingston:

“Never totally bury your opponent.” This is one of the first lessons about promos that Chris Jericho learned according to his first book “A Lions Tale: Around the World in Spandex”

Last thing I will say about my suspension. I was wrong in the wrong for touching another man’s face. Let it go!

AEW did a mil in ratings right? Let’s talk about that. Let’s talk about how Mox ripped the head of a snake on live TV. Let’s talk about how great my best friend penta match was.

Fuck it ok then after this I’m chilling but leave Sammy alone. In the court of law he is the victim. Let it go and leave the kid alone. For real done with this.

After news of the suspension became public where Kingston confronted Guevara after a promo that was cut (and didn’t air) on the August 12th edition of Rampage, Guevara issued his own response and provided a statement to Fightful. The two had been building toward a match at All Out but there has been no follow-up on television regarding the program and whether it is still scheduled for the pay-per-view.

**Toni Storm posted on her Instagram story that she had successful surgery and based on her photo, it appears to have been dental surgery. She added the caption “see you Wednesday” as she had been announced for a tag match next week with Hikaru Shida against Dr. Britt Baker & Jamie Hayter. Britt Baker made a comment stating, “I know a great dentist if any post-op problems arise.”

**Brandon Thurston at Wrestlenomics posted the quarter-hour numbers for Wednesday’s episode of AEW Dynamite. To no surprise, the peak in both viewership and 18-49 was the CM Punk vs. Jon Moxley match with 1,198,000 viewers and 512,000 in the key demo. The final thirty minutes of the show featured the incredible Trios match with Will Ospreay & Aussie Open against Death Triangle, which started at 987,000 viewers and 438,000 in the demo with a small increase in the final quarter to 993,000 and 444,000. The lowest quarter in overall viewers was the first half of the Trios main event while the lowest in 18-49 was 399,000 the third quarter contained the announcement of the Motor City Machine Guns for All Out, Thunder Rosa’s injury announcement, Billy vs. Colten Gunn and a backstage segment with Swerved in Our Glory and The Acclaimed.

**Brandon Thurston also has an analysis on the ticket revenue generated from WrestleMania 38 over two nights at AT&T Stadium this past April.

**The WWE dropped 3% on Friday and closed at $67.65.

**The NWA is running back-to-back pay-per-views from the Chase Plaza Hotel this weekend on Fite TV. Saturday night’s card airs at 8 p.m. ET with Matt Cardona against a hand-picked opponent, Jax Dane vs. Silvio vs. Cyon for the NWA National title, Bully Ray vs. Mike Knox in a Tables Match, Harry Smith & Doug Williams vs. La Rebellion for the NWA tag titles, Kamille vs. Taya Valkyrie for the NWA Women’s title, Homicide vs. Kerry Morton for the NWA Jr. Heavyweight title, The Pope vs. Rodney Mack, Miserably Faithful vs. The Ill Begotten, EC3 vs. Mims, and the Burke Invitational Gauntlet Match to determine who receives a women’s title shot on Sunday. The following nights has Trevor Murdoch defending the NWA title against Tyrus, the NWA Women’s title match with Kamille or Taya against the winner of the gauntlet match, Kenzie Paige & Ella Envy defend the NWA women’s tag titles against The Hex of Allysin Kay & Marti Belle, Thom Latimer vs. Judais, Colby Corino vs. Caprice Coleman, Nick Aldis vs. Flip Gordon, Davey Richards defends the MLW National Openweight belt against Thrillbilly Silas, Magic Jake vs. Mercurio, and a ten-team battle royal to determine the NWA U.S. tag team champions.

**IYO SKY spoke with Tokyo Sports about her recent call-up to the main roster and being paired with Bayley and Dakota Kai. SKY stated that she broke her right ankle back in April at the Stand & Deliver event and required surgery and a bolt inserted to keep the bone in place. She said it took about three months before she could put her full weight on the ankle.

**Regarding Thunder Rosa’s back injury, she told Busted Open Radio that it will probably be a couple of months that she will miss. We have inquired about her status for TripleMania in October where she is currently scheduled to wrestle Taya Valkyrie but have not heard if that show is still a possibility.

**Matt Charlton is running an auction for drawings from his G1 collection this year. The winning bid will be donated in its entirety to assisting Shinjiro Otani with the injury that he sustained earlier this year.

**R-Truth (Ron Killings) has released his latest single “Barnyard Flexin” which is out through his label RKE Entertainment.

ON THIS DATE

WWF presents its fourth SummerSlam event in 1991 from Madison Square Garden featuring the on-screen wedding of Randy Savage and Elizabeth with a big angle involving Jake Roberts crashing the wedding party with a snake. Over time, the memories of this show center around the dispute between Ultimate Warrior and Vince McMahon after McMahon characterized that he was held up for money before the show and fired Warrior immediately after his tag match with Hulk Hogan. The actual story is much more nuanced involving Warrior contacting McMahon in early July about being paid the same as Hogan, and McMahon agreeing to the terms. Several weeks later, Warrior did miss several shows and McMahon informed Warrior by letter that he was suspended for missing the dates and had become “impossible to work with” while claiming he accepted Warrior’s terms the previous month under duress. The sides broke apart, but Warrior returned at the next year’s WrestleMania with Warrior signing a new deal.
