Moxley wants to use all the potential he can muster up.

Multi-time AEW World Champion Jon Moxley is coming off of headlining both nights of NJPW STRONG Independence Day at Korakuen Hall. Nights one and two featured the renewal of his rivalry with El Desperado and the second night saw the two talents clash in a Death Match.

After the shows wrapped, Moxley sat down to chat with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated. He stated that he feels there were a few years of his career when he was at his peak that he did not use to his full potential. He wants to make sure he ends his career with no regrets.

At some point, some match will be my last. This existence in my athletic career is finite. I feel like I didn’t use a few of my peak years to my full potential. A lot of which is no fault of my own. Some of it is. So I’m very in the moment. I want to wring the sponge of every ounce of potential. I want to find out exactly what I can become. Regret is one of the worst things in life. There’s some really good quote about it—regret lasts forever, or some s—. You know what I’m saying. I want a career without regret.

Speaking about El Desperado, Moxley does not want to label him a ‘death match guy’ but said one can feel that from Desperado when in a room with him. He feels there is a chance that they have not scratched the surface of what they can do together.

Desperado is a free spirit in the way he works and presents himself. When you watch his matches in Mexico, he has a proclivity to think freely. I don’t want to label him a ‘death match’ guy. But when you’re in a room with him, you know it. We share an unspoken bond. We didn’t have a ton of expectations for our first encounter last year. But it showed us what we’re capable of doing together. If we are to meet again, which I’m sure we will, and the physical stakes are higher and there are more extreme environments, then we haven’t even scratched the surface of what we can do together.

Desperado and Jun Kasai teamed up on night one of Independence Day and they’ll be tagging again in August for the Pro Wrestling FREEDOMS promotion.
