Josh Alexander has been one of the top names in TNA Wrestling for years, including in recent months as the promotion built a formal relationship with WWE’s NXT program.
This, of course, begs the question: As other TNA stand-outs like Jordynne Grace, Joe Hendry, Rosemary, and JDC made crossover trips to NXT in recent months, why didn’t Alexander ever do so?
Alexander recently told Straight Talk Wrestling that it wasn’t always the plan for him to not appear on NXT. The two-time TNA world champion described that he came close to being figured into the show at points, although no chances came to fruition.
“I will say that there was one certain situation where I was supposed to go that did not happen,” Alexander said when asked about appearances in NXT. “There was maybe two other situations where I was asked to go and it got shut down for whatever which reason that wasn’t my own doing. No hard feelings on my end.”
Alexander described some of the possible ideas that he could have explored with a trip to NXT: “The North [could’ve] reunited for one night only,” he said, referring to the team he had with Ethan Page briefly in TNA. “Or I went one-on-one with Ethan Page in some capacity just because of all the history we have together. But there was a lot of stuff thrown at me at certain times … The timing wasn’t there.”
But never say never. Alexander says that he will officially be a free agent as of February 15, leaving all options for his wrestling future on the table. Along with the possibilities of joining AEW or inking a new deal with TNA, he could become the latest addition to WWE’s roster.
Alexander joked that he believes “everything happens for a reason,” and that his scrapped NXT appearances were no exception to that thought.
