Eddy Thorpe says he requested WWE release “to do something f—king meaningful”

Karl Fredericks, known as Eddy Thorpe in NXT, has said he requested his recent release.

Fredericks was among a wave of WWE contractual releases on May 2.

The 31-year-old was signed by WWE in January 2023, and made his first televised appearance on NXT in March of that year, after appearing on a few episodes of Level Up.

On Sunday, In response to a comment on social media praising Fredericks for being outspoken recently on various political issues, he posted: “I asked for my release from WWE so I could do something fucking meaningful with my life.”

In a follow-up response to another poster, he commented, “I set the goal to work there. I spent a decade working for it. I got it. And in my experience I came to the conclusion I didn’t want to do it.”

Fredericks began his in-ring career in 2015 and joined the New Japan L.A. Dojo to train under Katsuyori Shibata in 2018. He would go on to spend seven years with NJPW.
