Joe Hendry asks fans for support on his road to redemption

This week’s episode of TNA iMPACT, which was taped last weekend at the UPMC Events Center in Moon Township, Pennsylvania, started with a recap from last week, where Mustafa Ali ordered John Skyler to face him in a “Call To Arms” match. A recap of the Champions Challenge match was also shown.

Joe Hendry came to the ring for the first segment of tonight’s show. Hendry cut a promo about how the crowd helped support him on his way up in TNA, becoming the promotion’s world champion. He then called on the support of fans to stay with him during his incoming “redemption,” when he rematches Trick Williams for the TNA World Championship at Slammiversary on July 20.

Wentz earns pinfall victory over half of the TNA tag champs

The first match of the night saw The Rascalz member Zachary Wentz take on Ryan Nemeth in singles action. It was announced earlier today that The Nemeths will put their TNA tag titles on the line in a four-way ladder match at Slammiversary, with The Rascalz, First Class, and The Hardys facing off against them.

Wentz scored a near fall early in the match with a running shooting star press. He climbed to the top afterward, but was knocked down by Nemeth, who hit the ropes to get him off-balance.

Nemeth came charging forward with a nasty-looking DDT for a near fall. In disbelief about Wentz kicking out from this move, Nemeth grabbed his TNA tag belt and brought it into the ring. A struggle between Nemeth and the referee over the belt allowed Wentz to score a knee strike. Wentz then came off the top rope with a Spiral Tap for the pinfall win. Nemeth’s tag title antics ended up costing him a win.

The Nemeths teased stepping into the ring to brawl with The Rascalz after the match, but decided against it.

A recap of Trick Williams’ TNA title match win over Josh Briggs from NXT played next.

Williams was asked backstage if he’s ready to face Hendry, whom he has already beaten once. “Average Joe, I see you still got heart … Well, I say that’s good. Because whatever heart you got left in ya, I’m going to kick out ya.”

Williams went on to talk about tonight’s main event between Mike Santana and AJ Francis – he’s rooting for his friend, Francis.

Ash By Elegance earns title shot with sneaky battle royal win

Backstage, Arianna Grace teased that she has something in the works for TNA Knockouts champ Masha Slamovich, but won’t say what it is yet. Slamovich offered to face Killer Kelly next week in a chain match when they face off in a title bout.

A battle royal to find a future TNA Knockouts title challenger was next. The winner of the bout will go on to challenge whoever wins in next week’s battle between Masha Slamovich and Killer Kelly.

The IInspiration and Elegance Brand wrestlers were all sent out by the rest of the wrestlers to start the match… Or so we thought (this will make more sense later in the recap). Both factions brawled with each other at ringside as security looked to separate them.

Pennsylvania’s Katie Arquette, a niece of David Arquette, was eliminated early in the match. Jada Stone and Mila Moore, two wrestlers who were signed to TNA just earlier this week, were also eliminated early on.

Harley Hudson and Nyla Grace teamed up to eliminate Rosemary. Moments later, Tasha Steelz and Alisha Edwards got them out of the match. Everyone worked together to take out Edwards immediately after.

Xia Brookside put Victoria Crawford on the ring apron, then a roundhouse kick from Lei Ying Lee knocked her to the floor for an elimination. Brookside came charging toward Steelz, but was thrown over the top and kicked down to the ring mat for an elimination.

Steelz was thrown over by Lee, then Lee was eliminated by Tessa Blanchard. After an incredibly quick sequence of eliminations, it suddenly became just Blanchard and Indi Hartwell in the ring.

Both wrestlers got onto the ring apron, putting them inches away from elimination. As they continued to brawl, Ash By Elegance appeared from under the ring. She knocked them both to the mat, earning her a win. The broadcast aired a replay of earlier in the match, showing that Ash rolled under the bottom rope when it was assumed she was eliminated.

TNA Knockouts World Champion Masha Slamovich came to the ring after the match. Just moments after, NXT Champion Jacy Jayne also made a surprise appearance on the ring apron.

Jake Something, who returned on last week’s episode of TNA, said that Tommy Dreamer was the one person who checked on him while he was injured earlier this year, hence why he came to his side against Mance Warner. Something also called out TNA International Champion Steve Maclin: “You’re on notice.”

Moments later, Maclin came into the frame. “Good luck with Mance,” he said. “See you soon.”

Cedric Alexander makes save after ‘Call To Arms’ match

Mustafa Ali tried to teach a lesson to Order Four helper John Skyler in a “Call To Arms” match next. As explained on the broadcast, both wrestlers start the match with one hand tied to the ropes. The idea is that whoever unties their hands first gets an advantage, as they’re able to go to the other corner and beat down against their still-tied opponent.

It became clear immediately why Ali picked these rules. He whipped out a pair of scissors right after the bell sounded, cutting his rope and freeing him. Skyler was able to battle with Ali while tied in the corner, at one point throwing Ali over the top and to the outside.

Jason Hotch, who is sympathetic to Skyler’s situation, discreetly handed him a pair of scissors to also cut his rope. From this point on, it was just a normal singles ruleset.

Ali came rolling into the ring for a neckbreaker, but Skyler reversed it into a DDT as part of a slick combo. Skyler got another near fall a few seconds later with a slingshot spear.

Ali used his rope to choke Skyler, then threw him into a ringpost. The Order Four leader then went to the top for a 450 Splash, earning him a win via pinfall.

Ali seemingly thought the win wasn’t enough to teach Skyler his lesson. He went ringside to grab a steel chair in hopes of inflicting more damage. However, as he did this, Hotch got in his way. This caused Ali to put his focus on Hotch, throwing him into a ringpost.

Ali attempted to swing a chair at both Skyler and Hotch, but Tasha Steelz got in the way. After some hesitation, Ali seemingly planned on hitting all three with the chair. However, music playing in the venue caught his attention.

Cedric Alexander, a wrestler who faced Ali in the WWE ring more than 30 times, made his way out. Ali tried to leave the ring with Steelz following a face-to-face with Alexander. However, Alexander grabbed the arm of Steelz, not letting her leave. Hotch, Skyler and Steelz all stood behind Alexander as Ali left by his lonesome.

Matt Cardona confronted The System backstage, setting up a match for next week.

The Hardys overcome The Northern Armory

A few weeks away from their TNA tag title ladder match, The Hardys went up against Judas Icarus and Travis Williams of The Northern Armory.

Eric Young was more than willing to interfere in favor of The Northern Armory at ringside, causing lots of trouble for The Hardys early on. Young was eventually ejected by the referee after getting caught putting his hands on Matt Hardy.

The Hardys got control of the match not long after Young left the picture. After scoring their Plot Twist double team move, Jeff came down with a Swanton Bomb for a pinfall victory.

After the match, Jeff Hardy brought “Honorary Hardy” Leon Slater to the ring. The Hardys wanted to hype up Slater ahead of his Slammiversary X-Divison title match against Moose. Slater said that among his many motivations for the upcoming match is the fact that he wants to make the Hardys proud with a championship win.

Slater then mentioned that he’ll be sitting ringside for Moose’s match next.

Moose tries to intimidate Leon Slater ahead of Slammiversary match

In a showcase of his dominance, Moose crushed Jake Painter and Shane Sabre. While this bout was initially scheduled to be a triple threat, Moose noted before the match that he requested it to be a two-on-one contest to show what he will do to Leon Slater at Slammiversary.

Moose wiped out Painter with a massive powerbomb, then powerbombed Sabre onto Painter. Moose finished the match with a spear to Painter to win in just a couple of minutes.

Moose continued to beat up Painter after the match, causing Slater to get into the ring and go face-to-face with his future opponent. They stared each other down until Moose left the ring.

Mike Santana returns with Street Fight win

In his first match since returning to action, Mike Santana took on AJ Francis in a street fight to headline this week’s Impact. KC Navarro of First Class sat at ringside and sipped champagne as this match happened.

Santana wasted no time getting started with Francis, immediately beginning a brawl with him after getting in the ring. Santana came flying through the ropes with a baseball slide, then brought out a table from under the ring.

Santana and Francis went fighting into the crowd after a kick sent Francis over a guardrail. Francis threw Santana into a guardrail planted into the venue’s ground, then threw a garbage can on his back.

This venue’s guardrails got a lot of use. Francis threw Santana into it, then dropped him onto the top of it before a commercial break. Once the show returned, Santana threw a full garbage can at Francis, causing garbage to fly everywhere.

The match went back to ringside, where Santana tried jumping off the steel steps for a move. Francis caught Santana mid-air, then threw him headfirst into a ringpost.

Francis cracked Santana over the back with the top of a trash can lid. Francis brought Santana back into the ring, where he started to utilize a steel chair.

Francis sat down on a set-up chair and started to mock Santana. This worked up Santana, who got to his feet and started to strike Francis. What looked like a possible comeback was stopped by Francis, who slammed Santana onto his set-up steel chair – this looked gnarly.

Francis gave Santana a running knee strike in a corner of the ring while a garbage can was on his head.

Santana tried again for a comeback, piecing together a series of strikes. After dodging a clothesline, Santana threw a garbage can at Francis, sending him out of the ring. Santana then went flying over the top and to the outside, landing on Francis.

Santana tossed Francis into a steel staircase. He scored a springboard moonsault to the outside, then rolled Francis back into the ring. Santana came off the top, but Francis avoided a frogsplash. After a few reversals, Santana scored a rolling Buck 50 for a near fall.

Santana set up a pair of chairs, which he gave Francis a Death Valley Driver through for yet another two-count.

The match went over to the ring apron, where Santana hit yet another Death Valley Driver, this time putting Francis through a pair of tables set up at ringside. TNA champ Trick Williams came down the ramp in hopes of helping Francis but was stopped by Joe Hendry, who brawled with him to the back.

Santana brought Francis back into the ring for a frogsplash, but Francis somehow kicked out of the move. Santana tried for a Spin The Block, but Francis reversed it into a spear.

Francis connected with a Styles Clash, but Santana kicked out. After taking a swig of Navarro’s champagne, Francis tried for a Spin The Block of his own. Santana avoided this move, bashed Navarro’s champagne bottle over Francis’ head, then scored a Spin The Block to win via pinfall.

After the match, Santana announced that he still has his sights on the TNA World Championship, and doesn’t want to wait long for his shot. In fact, he mentioned that he wants to be added to the Slammiversary match between Trick Williams and Joe Hendry. Will he get that chance? We’ll find out on a future episode of Impact.

Next week’s TNA card was mentioned during the main event. Here’s what to expect on Thursday:

  • Masha Slamovich vs. Killer Kelly (TNA Knockouts World Championship) (Chain Match)
  • Trey Miguel vs. Nic Nemeth
  • The IInspiration vs. Victoria Crawford & Tessa Blanchard
  • Jake Something vs. Mance Warner
  • Matt Cardona vs. Eddie Edwards
