REWIND-A-WAI #140: Predator (1987 Film)

John Pollock and Wai Ting review the 1987 sci-fi action film Predator, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jesse Ventura as soldiers trapped in a rainforest who attempt to survive a mysterious and very violent alien threat.

In their first viewing of this 80’s classic, John and Wai discuss discovering the film’s endless supply of quotable lines and meme material, Arnold Schwarzenegger’s career as an action icon, the film’s use of practical special effects, Jean Claude Van Damme’s original role, Carl Weathers’ candidacy for the Scott Putski Award, and Jesse “The Body” Ventura’s brief-yet-memorable performance as the ultra-macho “Blain”.

Dutch (Arnold Schwarzenegger), a soldier of fortune, is hired by the U.S. government to secretly rescue a group of politicians trapped in Guatemala. But when Dutch and his team, which includes weapons expert Blain (Jesse Ventura) and CIA agent George (Carl Weathers), land in Central America, something is gravely wrong. After finding a string of dead bodies, the crew discovers they are being hunted by a brutal creature with superhuman strength and the ability to disappear into its surroundings. (Google)
