Joe Hendry defending TNA World Championship against Trick Williams at NXT Battleground

Williams and Hendry to clash at Battleground.

Since TNA World Champion Joe Hendry returned to NXT on the post-Stand & Deliver edition of the weekly program, he’s been at odds with Trick Williams.

Williams has appeared at several TNA events and went after Hendry. That trend continued on both ends during the 5/6 NXT on The CW.

The brand’s General Manager Ava spoke to Hendry in her office and shared that she chatted with TNA Director of Authority Santino Marella and it was decided that Hendry is going to defend the TNA World Championship against Williams at Battleground on May 25th. The two talents are going to meet before then at TNA Under Siege on May 23rd. Hendry and Elijah are taking on Williams and Frankie Kazarian at the event.

It’ll be the first time a TNA title is defended at a WWE Premium Live Event. The contract signing for the title match is taking place on 5/13. Here’s the updated Battleground lineup:

  • NXT Championship: Oba Femi (c) vs. Myles Borne
  • TNA World Championship: Joe Hendry (c) vs. Trick Williams
